Blown Radiator Hose Quick Fix - Jag S Type
I thought I share my quick fix invention from a few weeks back....
Car: S Type 3.0 V6
When driving home the car decided to blow out a plastic manifold just on top of radiator, the one leading to the auxiliary tank of the radiator.
As I had 45 minutes to make the car roadworthy again, due to family commitment the following fix has been invented, which has served me perfectly for the last 1000 miles, so it seems functional and saves approx 100 GBP of parts cost.
Fix: Apply heat resistant glue (any dual component epoxy will do), in my case I had some Loctite at home, and than place a hose clip around it, anything over 50mm will do. This is required to compensate for pressure, as glues are not so great to hold large forces, except if you have the metal putty type of thing handy.
You have to top up water, as the water loss will be substantial due to this manifold being under pressure from the water pump.
Glue touch dry in 15 min, fiddle with hose clip another 10... So the car was ready for rock and roll in 40 min... Had 5 min to have an espresso with my wife before departing.
Hope it helps someone one day
