Boot won't open

Boot won't open
Hello fellow Jaguar enthusiasts,
I hope you're all doing well. I'm facing an issue with my Jaguar S-Type from 2006 , and I was hoping someone here might have some insights or suggestions. The problem is that my boot won't open, with the boot button inside the car or the key fob but works manually. However, when I press the boot button or use the key fob, I can hear a ticking noise coming from the boot area.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem with their Jaguar S-Type? If so, I would greatly appreciate any advice or recommendations you might have. What could be causing the ticking noise?
Thank you
Mathis

Two things come to mind:
Try pressing down on the trunk lid while turning the key or a helper presses the button. If there is too much tension on the latch, it may not fully release. On my car, the rear door on the driver's side is like this. This door sees limited use, and the latch often doesn't release unless you push in at the same time.
Or:
Try lifting up on the trunk lid. I think the rubber seal provides some of the initial push to pop the lid open. On my car, the seal seems to have lost some of its springiness and doesn't always pop open by itself.

This implies the latch is receiving the electrical command to actuate, but it's not being translated to mechanical action.
Does your trunk have an external button? If so, that makes three methods to send the electrical signal:
1) Key fob button
2) Dash button
3) External button on trunk lid
Maybe double check the external button causes noise from the latch, in addition to the other two inputs. All three methods are inhibited via the valet switch, but apparently your car does not have this feature.
If indeed you're consistently getting the click from the latch, I'd look at the mechanical side of the latch. The click would be the actuator moving. Perhaps something in the linkage has come undone, and the mechanical motion from the actuator is not being transferred to the latch. Meanwhile, the mechanical motion from the key cylinder is reaching the latch. Your mission, should you choose to accept, is figure why one mechanical input works but not the other.

Thank you for your advice I think I will replace the actuator.

Couldn't get the video to play. Do I understand correctly the clicking is coming from the REM? I'm very confused as I thought it was all solid state inside.
