Brake Booster Check Valve & Grommet
Greetings . . .
Thought I should pass this along, because it poleaxed me!
Decided to replace check valve as well as grommet - plenty on eBay for AU$50 and AU$15 but, armed with check valve I had cut off end of plastic line and measured hole in boost cylinder, went in search of my local country brake specialist . . . who tells me . . .
"Don't have much call for Jaguars mate, but the brake boost manufactures make both the check valves and grommets in only 2 sizes . . . older ones are BIG and newer ones are SMALL. Looks like you want a SMALL and the matching grommet,eh? Ten bucks all up!"
Once this kind chap (who I suspect is related to my guru mate Grant Francis) had dragged me up off the floor, he did alert me to a problem . . . I had cut off the old check valve, only to find it was probably OK, I was never going to get the barb of the new valve into that tube. Sure enough, no amount of heating helped. Again he supplied the solution . . . a short length of high pressure line that, with some effort, fitted over both the barb of new check valve and that hard plastic vac line.
Cheers,

- brake boost failure on our MY07 2.7L TTD;
- removed check valve from vac booster, as grommet fell to pieces;
- vac line uses engine driven pump (not manifold) with enough to pull elephant from bog!
- toughest bit was finding how to unlock the "QuickConnect" fitting on the vac pump!
