Brake lights sticking on

Brake lights sticking on
I would appreciate any help . I have a 2002 STR 53,000 miles only. The brake lights stick on and will only go out if i hook my foot under the pedal and lift it, it only moves a miniscule amount when I do this and the lights go out.
I have looked at the brake pedal and it seems that the micro switch is working ok but occassionally does not go the fraction of an inch required to put the lights out.
Is then any adjustment to this plastic switch as I am not able to see any.
Also please help again occassionally it will not change gear up from second, moving the lever of the J gate selector towards manual and back to drive it will then change up. It changes normally when manually selected. the car was fitted with a new gear box some 3000 miles ago before my purchase by a UK approved dealer.

You can adjust the brake switch, take it out, flip the blue or grey collar over and pull the plunger all the way out, or at least more than it is. Flip the collar back
on your shifter you either need a new cable(probobly for your age car) and or adjustment. The condition you describe will lead to trans failure cause it can lead to pressure bleed of since the shifter doesnt move the manual valve allt he way into correct position.
