Brakes on Fires After Parking Break Reset
My daughter's 2007 S-Type 85K miles had the common can't release parking brake issue. Performed the usual computer reset plus on/off with foot brake applied procedure and the parking brake released. We were left with an error message that the parking brake could NOT be set. The brakes were released and the car seemed to drive with no brake resistance. However after a few miles the parking brake did somehow set and the rear brake pads caught fire that much scared my daughter but with fire extinguisher all was saved.
I am confused as to what happened after I thought having released the brakes and with them saying they could not be set that there would be no problem driving the car.
Is the brake controller unit faulty or can I test it? We recently had the computer replaced so I hope it is not that.
ALSO after this these codes:
P0056
P0051
P0151
wondering if battery thought it starts just fine might be not good enough?
Mike/Shelly

hi
when you say you reset brakes with computer, what do you mean
usually to recalibrate the epb park brake, you just disonnect the battery, then just follow the instruction on the dash, when you swtitch the ignition back on after reconecting the battery
parking brake faults are usually caused by stiff caliper parking brake arms, stiff parking brake cables, worn epb motor/gearbox and sometimes module, caused by damp in the boot
but sounds like a seized caliper or cable or wrongly adjusted caliper pistons, because under normal operation, every time the parking brake is applied, hitting the accelerator releases the parking brake
cheers

There WAS a spillage in the trunk. How does that effect things?
I have done the reset thing and the brake did release BUT reset itself when going into P (park) despite the error message that it could not be set???!!!!?????
Resetting and calibration also has not allowed brake to set and I still get the can't set brake message and the warning beep. I have disconnected the p brake module but still get message and warning beep?
IS IT TIME TO REPLACE THE PARKING BREAK MODULE?

Thanks. I reported but in another thread I guess, that I have done this. The motor runs in both directions but the cable does not move so I guess the gear is slipping. I need get the motor out and fix or replace. But what causes the alarm to sound and how can I silence it? What and where can know the motor is bad? How does the cars computer "know" the parking brake can't be set (which is actually not true as it is set permanently and that's why I needed to disconnected the cables from the calipers)
