Default Braking wobble

Hey all, on my 03' STR I have a constant brake wobble that I cannot get rid of and is really becoming irritating, I have replaced fairly recent rotors with new ones, had the wheels re balanced and checked to be running true, replaced all lower front control arms due to worn bushings. only thing I can think of is maybe a hub has become warped? if so how would say TimKen bearings compare with OEM Jag or any other recommendations ?Jaguar, of course, demand a significant premium over the other brands, and I'm not too sure if Lincoln LS ones are the same

Thanks for any tips

What do you mean by 'brake wobble'? Steering wheel shakes when the brakes are applied? Brake pedal pulses? Only happens when brakes are applied or all the time?

Hello Mike, to answer your question yes it is only when the brakes are applied and it is the steering wheel shakes, I notice it at freeway speed under light to moderate braking and less when really stopping hard, around town at slower speeds same symptoms. there is no pedal pulsation and when accelerating or cruising I notice nothing. and it drives smoothly. when i replaced the fairly new rotors it appeared to go away for the most part and has now come back again.

Take the car to a friendly local garage and have them use an angle grinder and abrasive pad to remove accumulated pad material that's built up on the rotor surfaces. Consider changing the pads to another brand- some seem to be worse than others in this prespect. I use Raybestos, but mine is a non R.

I would also suggest torque to spec when changing anything around the wheels including the wheel lugs.

As I pay a bit more attention to the symptoms there definitely is a bit of steering wheel shake around 45-54'ish mph it is noticeable at these speeds but in no way extreme, have gone over the torque on all pieces that the dealer replaced and the alignment was done at the same time. not sure if this maybe related to a hub that is out of whack or maybe the wheel is slightly off, perhaps warrants a second opinion

Steering wheel shaking (vibrations) between 45 - 55 mph could be one of 2 causes - worn or shot lower ball joints or an intermitient misfire from one of your coils.

Hi, I have the exact same issue with my 2006 STR. Significant vibration at steering wheel when lightly applying the brakes, and then goes away under full brake pressure. Where you able to resolve it?
Thanks!

Mine does the same... I'm thinking lower ball joints... too bad they're not serviceable and required a whole new upright if I'm not mistaken...

You really need to check the run out on the disc while it's mounted on the car. I have a magnetic mount for my small dial caliper that works great.
But instead of me trying to explain, take a look at this how to video. It's the only way to check that it's caused by the disc itself. I also recommend wire brushing the hub and back of the disc before mounting them.

I have used Timken front hub/bearing assemblies on my Subaru and they were first class. The bearing race was by NSK.

Several years ago I had a similar issue with my Mazda Millenia S---eventually I tracked it down to a "bent "hub--the runout on the hub face was less than 0.005 in.New factory rotors mounted on this hub ran true for a short time and then warped.I would say it is worth checking the run out on the hub,per previous post.

I have new timken front hubs/bearings, and new rotors, as well as new wheels that been road force balanced... still the same steering wheel shimmy at light-medium brake pedal modulation, doesn't do it under heavier braking... my experience on other cars suggests this is usually a lower ball joint or lower control arm bushing issue...I'll have to check a few spots for play next time I have it up on the hoist,
