Default Broken battery vent tube - do I have to fix it?

So It's freezing here in Canada today and I was plugging in the trickle charger for the battery overnight and accidentially grabbed the battery vent tube thinking it was the wire for the trickle charger and snapped the vent tube off (it was super brittle from the cold) right at the battery.

Question - will I have any problems if I just leave this broken? If I need to fix it can I wait for a couple months for the warmer weather or will it create issues before that?

Thanks

If your battery is allowed to outgas directly into your trunk, it won't take long for the gasses to corrode the interior trunk paint and possibly some of the wiring and electrical connections. I would repair or replace that battery vent as soon as possible....

As above.

And worse, you are in the habit of charging the battery.

See a BMW dealer, they have the nipple and stock it. About $3.

To remove the remaining bit, thread in a drywall screw and yank
it out with pliers.

Big thanks for your replies and great idea to use the drywall screw to get the old bits out.

Just wish it would warm up long enough to work on it - I'm afraid I'll snap the tube in a different spot if I touch it at these temps (ya it's -25° here).
