Exclamation Broken Fuel Line retainer clips

I replaced the fuel pump and on a 2002 S-Type. Everything is back in but in the process of removing some of the fuel lines that go into the canister, some of them broke. I went to 3 auto parts stores. Nothing. Then I went to Jaguar repair shop and the man said he'd never seen those before. I looked online at dozens and dozens of fuel line connectors, retainer clip... whatever you want to call them and nothing. Any idea of where to find these little buggers? Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum Steve,

I've copied this question from your Intro thread. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Default Can't Find These Fuel Line Connectors Anywhere!

I hope I'm posting in the right place now. I'm still learning how to navigate around the site. These are the plastic retainer rings, clips, connectors that attach the fuel lines on the sending unit of a 2002 S Type. Some of them broke while removing it. I've looked all over and can't seem to find out where to get these. Is there another way? It seems like the fuel line fits pretty tight without them but I'm not going to take a chance. I'm pretty sure these are NOT what you call "P clips". Thanks

Best bet - junkyard and remove them carefully. Try spraying WD 40 on them before depressing tabs. They break easily...

Being pre-2003 (which is when huge changes were made) you may well find them like the Ford LS. (2003 and onwards, not so likely.)

I believe the OP is referring to the red and white round retaining clips that accept the plastic fuel lines that go into the top of fuel pump assembly.

I broke one of them (the white one) if I recall. They are harder to release the fuel line for some reason than the red one.

Luckily my replacement pump (used) had them intact.

I then started using WD 40 to soak them before depressing both ends (they're spring loaded too) and the trick is to push in the fuel line then pull it straight up to release.

Default Fuel Line Claps on eBay

Are these what you are looking for?

Amazzon carries them as well.

You need to ask and post in the S-Type forum.

This forum covers 1987-1994 XJ's known as XJ40's.

Hi Steve,

I have merged your thread from the forum for the XJ40 to your other thread previously moved to the S-Type forum. Here you will find knowledgeable owners of similar cars.

Cheers,

Don

I answered this in your duplicate post. Either source a cheap, used fuel pump to get these clips or find a vehicle in a you pick it junk yard...

No, those are not the clips I'm looking for but thanks anyway. I'm looking for these and from what I'm finding out, they are not available and one has to go to a wrecking yard, pay around $30 for a sending unit and just take the red and white connectors off of it.

UPDATE: Okay, I went to a wrecking yard and had to pay $40 just for those little clips but I guess I saved money by not buy a whole new sending unit. Yes, I know I could have put those little clips in my pocket and walked out but I don't want the bad wrecking car karma to follow me. Anyway, those damn little clips are a huge pain in the *** to remove. I had this whole sending unit in a vice trying get them out and they simply were NOT going to come. I ended up taking a a hack saw and destroying the damn thing to get them off.
So.... the wrecking yard is the answer but DO NOT LOOK AT A 2003. They are totally different. I got mine out of a 2001 and my car is a 2002.

WD40 or some lubricant helps for sure...

They are no longer available (NLA) from Jaguar. Care must be taken when removing them from the fuel pump module as they become brittle with age.

A breaker's yard is your best bet, but even on a vehicle with the connectors intact, they may also break when being removed.
