Building up a trans for more power...

Stock MB 722.6 is enough strong for at least 800Nm. My car's transmission was strengthened by adding extra clutch packs to the gears 1-4. Also the torque converter was modified to hold minimum 1000 Nm. Hopefully reach that torque range sometime in the future There are blue tops of course. I can just say that there is almost no slipping at the start line when rev against the brake. It's on/off..

The math shows a 3800lb car with 500 at the flywheel with all things going as they should is expected to turn about a 12 flat in the quarter mile. That's really all you need to beat most anything on the street with rare exception of those crazy monster hp builds. 500 flywheel from a blown 4.2 liter is not a big feat technically. Stay tuned for 500 wheel on the little m112 "heaton"..... that puts the car projected solid into the 11's. Is it worth it? probably not but I've never been one to let common fiscal sense get in the way. Will it be cheaper than a 10k blower swap? Pretty sure, but we shall see... "It's always impossible until someone does it"

eh... trap speed/MPH does all the talking in terms of telling you just how fast a car is/how much power it makes... The 4.2 SC cars don't trap much faster than 108-110mph even with all the bolt-ons... The 5.0 SC cars trap about 118mph... with a few bolt ons, they go about 123mph... you'll never do that on an eaton, and even with a TS you'll need to be running a good amount of boost to match that...
500whp on a 4.2 with the stock eaton??? sorry but unless you plan to spray it or add a turbo to blow through it, that's not gonna happen..
I agree with you, I like the look of the STR for sure, but there's no denying the newer jags have many improvements and a much more modern look that won't age super fast, relative to a very dated looking S... Sure I wouldn't necessarily take an XF-R over my STR, but If given a chance at an 07+ XKR, let alone a '10+ XKR... I wouldn't even blink in trading my S for one...
Although I don't know how fair this comparison is, as we are talking about cars two-to-four times the price of a decent STR...but when you factor in 10-20k in potential mods/labor just to match the performance of a 5.0L SC car... eh the price gap between these just narrowed significantly...

I guess I should have specified on the use of your word luckily, that was the part that confused me. I thought that you were implying that it was a bad idea of sorts, for technical reasons not subjective ones. My mistake brother, I certainly understand why most would turn their nose up at such and expensive mod on an older car.
I own my xjr outright, and I am not far enough in life to support the payments on a 5.0 SC Jag unfortunately. So to me, saving up a little to make the car as 'cool' as it can be is the best route.
I use the car as just a "fun" car, and like I said for a person like me the TS or the modd route is really my only option to play with the big boys. Besides, we are in love and she deserves it.
I was going over the pulley, port, yadda yadda route.. But I would like to end up in the 500s rwhp wise and I just don't see the eaton doing it (am I wrong?), when I looked at costs the TS was not too much more all in all.
Now thats just the kit, not counting other mods.
Did you see these lobb?
"#S2EX. Exedy Stage 2 6R80 Friction Kit is our answer for the daily driven mustang up to 1,000 HP. This Kit has been proven time and time again in 800-1,000 HP vehicles lasting an entire season. These clutches and steels are designed to throw whatever that Coyote can throw at it. This kit was designed to be a drop in replacement for the factory clutch packs. These clutches have been tested in a 1,000 HP mustang for the last NMRA season and as you see in the teardown video below look great after an entire season of racing. It is highly recommended that you have your vehicle tune modified when using the clutches allowing you to take full advantage of this state of the art friction and steel module. This same friction Kit also works in the ZF6HP26, for you European hot-rodders. We are proud to release this first in a long line of performance friction modules. We have not come to just compete, but to conquer! So go BIG, or go HOME! Master Kit with gaskets and seals, Cost $774.00. Friction and Steel Kit, Cost $575.00."
Edit: Sorry walked right past your third link.....

I think it's actually a lot harder for most people financially, to drop 10k+ in cash on mod(s), then it is to take your existing car, trade it in, throw a few k on top, and finance that 30-40k XFR/XKR...
With the TS you might enter a death-spiral of mods, where you'll build the trans next, then the diff, then the injectors, and on and on... unless you're doing all the work yourself, you can spend $20k in a hurry... Check out "Jeff in Tucson" s build thread where he documents his TS XKR... I am a gearhead and been involved with shops/aftermarket for years, and I know exactly how deep financially owners can go in a span of 12 months building a car at a shop,
Don't get me wrong, me personally, I am still very interested in doing a TS build on my STR, I'm just trying to outline why for many people, it will just make more sense to shoot up for the 5.0L cars, which can make the true 500+ whp with just bolt ons...

I do see what you mean about trading in/up, but that option just is not in the cards for me. I have read nice chunks of Jeff's thread. Pornographic.
To me the road is half the fun :-) my father in-law has been a mechanic for about half of my lifetime, and we can work at his shop with access to anything needed, I wont be paying for labor (I will, but it will be fractions of real labor prices).
This will be a priceless journey. More of a bonding experience for us and even more of a learning experience for me.
LOL at death spiral of mods.

@gtr42,
The early steel bodied XKRs already had 6HP26 box from the 2003MY, where I have done a couple there as well. I do not have a kit yet for the XK, the aluminium version from 2006. Next to the 2.6 kits, my very 1st 2.1L kits where also again on a couple of cars with the 6hp26 box.
Anyway, I can never give any guarantees, other than so far it seems the stock 6hp26 box is very strong, and for street use it seems to hold up pretty well.

Somebody doesn't have their activation point set correctly for the application. ...
Todays modern electronic controlled wet systems allow for rpm, wot, and speed related activation perameters with multi-stage spray intensity. But that was an awesome smoke show anyhow : D
And no worry, LSD is on the list Of items for a good time haha

As I've written else where, I believe 90% of the S-types will scrapped in the next 5 to 10 years. There just isn't the availability of engine parts to rebuild the 4.2L engines cost effectively. With that being said, in the not so distant future, owners will primarily become enthusiasts who like the cars for what they are and will be willing to spend the money it takes to keep them going. Owners will fall into three types. Clunker drivers, Purists and Rodders. Clunker drivers will spend as little as possible and drive the car into the ground. Purists will pay to keep their cars stock and the Rodders will modify their cars just for the fun of it. (Because the cars are cheap to buy and almost worthless.) From a rodders perspective, if you have to pay $7K to 10K to rebuild a stock engine, then what's another $5K to $10K to build it from a performance perspective. $20K sunk into modding a Jaguar is nothing compared to buying a new car. I know guys who spend $20K to $30K on new GM crate engines and don't blink an eye, just to get more horsepower out of their Corvettes.
Avos has proven that 600+HP is possible out of the 4.2s. I believe that in the next few years, when it comes time for others to rebuild their STR engines, more KB TS's will be installed.
I love to see postings on performance mods, like the transmission, that will help our cars run faster and stronger.
