Default bummer add me to the the coolant reservoir club

Noticed a small dribble of coolant on the garage floor yesterday after Joyce left for work. Checked the vehicle out last night.

I picked up a new reservoir for $131.00 OTD from the local Jaguar Dealer this afternoon. I know what I'll be doing whilest downing a few cold ones tonight, woo hoo! I may try my hand at a video of the procedure, but I cannot promise the out come!

Had to happen eventually Rick. :-)

120-140 Kpa is only ~3psi difference 17.4 - 20.3 maybe it's an upgrade for the grannys?

Rick, sorry about the reservoir...Mine went south four months ago. Cheer up, you're now a member of the "Reservoir Dogs".

mine went one saturday in the drive way at my river house when i went to detail it. however my local dealer was 60+ miles away, luckly i was still under warranty so they roll backed it there for me and took care of it. the "little male" end (poor guy lol) cracked and went, the whole bottle was gone relatively quick...for you it should be easy though and luckly she made it back home safe!

It looks like it cracked at that small nipple next to the purge screw.

It's just sooooo easy to bump any and all of these connections when you're doing any other work on the car. I'm sure that's what happened to mine.

Use a bit of silicone grease (Napa has it Sil-Glyde 765-1351 or Dow Corning 111) on the fittings so that the hoses can come off and go on again without strain. I've been using it for almost 30 years and it really helps. Don't worry that the hose still moves around once the clamp is tight.

They must have used recycled Barbie Dolls for these plastic coolant parts.

Mine was the consistency of dried oatmeal, though what they used for the black color remains a mystery.......

It's probably recycled and not virgin material. The ones in some of my older cars are clear and you can see the metal reinforcement pipes in spots like this. That or exterior webbing give it strength.

It's just a sh*t part.

To be fair, I was actually referring to the other end of the hose where Rick's problem is - on our 03, that nipple snapped off and crumbled up like dried oatmeal...yeah, the one on the $200+ rad. hose assy, not the $97 tank. The 05 sprung a leak at that nipple on the tank, as it looks like Rick's has.

We obtained the 03 in 08 and I don't know if the tank was changed before then, but it was still going strong last Christmas so I changed it out proactively, or at least "pre-emptively" as my daughter attends university some 6 hrs' drive distant in NE LA - a land without a Jag-tech, from what I can unearth.

Where IS Rick, anyway?!? He should be done with that by now......

No I think this is all Jag, I have a ten year old Ford product with over 130K on it and I did have to replace that tank about two years ago. It had well over 100K miles then but it didn't crack or leak. The low coolant light sender was stuck on and I just got tired of it.

These parts feel like those old model kits plastic. There are terrific plastics available. Jag didn't use them. But I have issues with even the good plastics.

Brass tanks last forever. It's just harder to make stuff like this in really strange shapes. Impossible really. The design engineers are so dependent upon this sort of thing now and we're all paying the price. My older Italian cars are such a pleasure to work on compared the stuff.

Have you ever looked into what it's like to service a modern Audi?
That's why I'd never buy a used on. They're very nice cars but once the warranty is up good bye.

Audi? Yep Bob, I've read that often the entire front clip must be removed to access engine /trans. issues.

Welp handled the tank this morning (and yes for those who know me I did it in my bath robe)!

Sorry no video or pictures but there is an awesome how to write up in the FAQs. The only thing that held me up was the lower coolant hose was stuck on the coolant tank pretty tight, I had to use a big flat head screwdriver to pry it off.

All in all piece of cake job! Took more time to syphon out the coolant that was in the reservoir tank. Took all of 20 minutes to swap out.

Congrats Rick, and welcome to the New Tank Club. Anyone who keeps their S-Type more than a couple of years gets initiated into the club, as you well know....

My 1999 Ram's tank (while indeed plastic) is hefty and strong. Jan's 2004 RX330's tank isn't quite as sturdy as my Ram's, but it is still far better than Jaguar's. Another case of lousy parts right out of the chute, just like the DCCV and the fuel filler door latch plastic pin....

That's the one with the spring clip, no?

Good job! Todja it was nothing compared to the raw mechanical prowess you bring to the garage...even clad in a "row" as my kiddo's used to call it...I miss those days when they had only a passing grasp of language....

Siphon the coolant? That could'na been fun...wait...you DO go for the el-cheapo beerz as I recall...mebbe scant difference in taste? 'specially after enough to get Joyce po'd at you......I just lost what it lost 'til I could get a little vinyl cap on the tank outlet on mine.

Yes Zane ours has the spring clip, that came off with no problem, the quick connect itself had to be pried off.

BTW, I hadn't been under the hood at all for awhile, so I did not accidentally bump anything. It appears mine seperated at the seam. I will give apreasure test later and confirm.

Yes when I am going for long haul drink fest, I hit up the Busch Lights , man I can down some of those!! When I am feeling more refined I will hit up the Miller Lites or the Amstel Lights when called for.
