HI well i am looking at buying a 2003 s-type r. It has 81k miles and looks as if it is in immaculate condition. It also has the navigation unit as well. The one problem i have with the car is that when i took it on a test drive the air bag warning light came on. The dealer assured me that if i got the car that it would be fixed but the problem is that its a doge dealer and not sure if i want them to fix it. The price is only like $12,000 so seems like a good deal to me. is it? Is there anything specif i need to watch out for on the 2003?
Thanks

Hey, here are some tips for you to make sure your great deal is in fact, great!
1) headlight issue can be checked two ways. either turn them on full mode, not just parking lights while parked close to a wall or have someone do it while u stand in front of the car. If they work you will EASILY, NO QUESTIONS ABOUT IT be able to see both dip towards the ground and back up again.
2) since the car doesnt have a full warranty i take it because of year, miles, and price take it to a Jaguar dealer and have them do the same inspection they would as a CPO car...basically have them test it all...it might cost you $100-$200 but it sure beats an easy $10,000 repair bill if there are faults with the car
3) check and make sure the car has a clean carfax....regardless of if it does use a dealers paint meter to check to see if the car has been painted or not...if they say they dont have a paint meter they are LIEING every dealer has one its how they check to see if a car has been wrecked or not...the numbers should be pretty close per body panel....if there is a huge jump then BAM you know its been painted and probably wrecked
4) id be suspecious of how they got the car. Dodge dealers usually dont want anything to do with highline cars and vice versa. How many people do you knwow ould trade their pristine Jaguar for a Dodge? At their price its def wholesale, if the car was as great as it seems to be they would have sold it easily to a highline dealer for them to mark up
5) two regular maintenance items to be sure to check are tires and brakes which can both be very expensive for the car...esp brakes... ive heard you can have a $1000 brake service job easy!
I dont mean to sound harsh im just trying to help you out and make sure you dont end up with a big bill for that beautiful car! let us know what happends, i hope i was of some help!

Dodge dealers get their used cars from the auction. The Dodge dealer I used to work at sells Jags quite often. Other advice is spot on.
BUT - a wrecked car is not a bad car. My car had a big repair bill and understand that these cars are not cheap to fix. A bumper, a light or two, a hood and 2 airbags is horrendously expensive and will cause zero structural damage, only bolt on cosmetic.
Cars are made and repaired so well these days it amazing. Also understand that fixing a wrecked Jag is different than fixing a wrecked 1997 Neon. You can't half *** the job and get away with it.
I've painted cars and worked at a dealer. I know my cars. I still cannot find where my car was hit or what was replaced. I have found one small flaw in the paint from the fix and it perplexes even a good friend of mine also in the car bidness for 25 years. It was fixed right and drives so nice....
I'd buy an ST-R that was smoked and fixed right in a heartbeat. Hell, if I saw a 2003 ST-R for 12k near me I'd buy it today.
