It has 71,000 miles. What are some of the things I should look for before buying. It has an excellent repair record (carfax) only thing that has been replaced was A/C pump. However owner says that when starting up cold the tranny has a hard time finding gears, but after its warm it goes away. That is all that worries me.

That said.. Before you buy it you should probably get it inspected by a dealer who knows the difference between a software issue vs. a trans issue. The ZF box is REALLY expensive if it ever needs replaced...Hate to see you buy it then get hit with a $5,000 transmission job...

I'll contribute: Look to see if the throttle body coolant line has been replaced - goes under the S/C and is the best part of a $1000 repair and seams to be very common.
Check that the key fobs work.
Test the transmission, specifically around 35-45 MPH in a tall gear for the torque converter locking and releasing under very light or steady throttle.
My input....
Pete

carfax and the like only shows so much...before I bought mine, I took the VIN to my local Jag dealer and had them pull the entire service record, I was fortunate, the service mngrs comment was"wow, the previous owner was obsessed", it had every thing possible service done on time, and had every software revison, and any and all recalls/tsb's completed..I got the printout as well.
Its a worth doing.

That doesnt matter if you want I can PM you my warranty companys info.
Its pretty comprehensive and reasonable.
My 02 had 80k miles and they covered it for 100K miles and the only non covered items were, User serviceable items- Oil change, brake pads (rotors calipers covered) and other scheduled maint. and interior plastics IE ashtray cupholders.

Min STR had an excellent full 1 owner history as well as very low milaege (39,000km when purchased in 2008) but both rear lwr. wishbone hydro/rubber mounts were cracked and leaking (unroadworthy), as well as the front forward lwr. wishbone hydro/rubber mounts!
I was fortunate to obtain all 4 in excellent used condition (approx $800 US), here in Australia.
Have to buy whole arms as cannot buy hydro bushes seperately!
In all fairness to the car the number of speed humps we have here in Melbourne are a joke!
Otherwise car is incredibly reliable!
enjoy

I will try not to bore you too much.
Had the car since '92 and cannot part with it. Great convertable 4 seater and a lovely 70s V8 rumble. Not heaps of power (120kw),as 3 litre OHC V8 quite understressed from factory but quite tunable as plenty of high quality specific parts available.
Italian designer Michelotti penned the looks but Triumph hastily introduced to market which led to some poor quality em.... read 70s British Leyland... engine issues. Mostly related to the usual English overheating, gasket blowing, inadequate radiator problems.
Out of a production run of about 26,000, roughly 20,000 stayed in the UK. The most popular export market was Australia. And the engine never appeared in any other British Leyland product.
Although nothing inherently wrong with the engine design, the high mounted water pump in the V meant that if water level dropped, no water circulating.
With excellent parts avilability, no more reliability issues, 4 seats, independant suspension, pwr steer, electric windows, air con, wool carpets, real timber, dual circuit front disc brakes etc. etc. and a heap of passionate owners the cars are highly desirable. Values have also been creeping up of late.
Buy one now before they get to E Type prices!
Cheers John

1. Whats best for the leather, and how often do I treat it?
2. What oil should I use, seeing how I live in Pa, its a little colder?
3. What type of treatments should I use on the dash, tires, wheels?
4. I am using Eagle one nano spray wax right now, any other products would be appreciated.
