buying a used S...
Hello everybody, this is my first post and I have some noob questions. I’m looking to buy a gently used S-type 3.0. Can anyone tell me the differences between the years 2000-2006, if any? I meanhas anything changed and or been upgraded interior or exterior wise? Is there an S-type, year, I should avoid? Thanks for your help guys.

Try to avoid the 2000-2002 as they were significantly improved for the 2003 year. The pre-2003 aren't bad, but also try to avoid the 3.0 as it's not as reliable as the 4.0! Then again, I have a 2001 3.0 and I haven't had any problems at all! Just a broken Tee that I broke myself out of ignorance! Overall, a very good car and good luck with it if you get it. Hope we can be of service here on the forum!

The 3.0 is OK, the 4.0 can have problems with timing chain tensioners and water pumps. The 4.0 will be a better drive but the 3.0 has enough go and good economy, I'm talking economy in Jaguar terms though!

I was under the impression that the 3.0 is basically the Ford Duratec engine? Is this incorrect?
Bigdreams, you average 32.6 mpg with the V8? If thats the case I may have just get a 4.0 or 4.2.

RE: buying a used S...
I have a V8 (4.2L, VDP Edition) and there is no way you average that much on an entire drive. I can average close to 40MPG... when I am going downhill!!! Realistically I get anywhere between 23 to 25 mpg with average driving (not too conservative, not too agressive with part highway, part stop-and-go)
I am not saying you're lying bigdreams. All I am saying is that your picture says that the 32.6MPG is the average from Trip-A. Well, for all we know, your Trip-A was 0.1 mile downhill.
