Default A/C Compressor

First, I want to thank all of the skilled people on this forum who dish out valuable, cost saving advice for the rest of us. I've saved a bundle from your help.

Now my problem:

My AC stopped working on my 2000 S Type so I took it into the Jag dealer to get a diagnostic.

They said that I need at new ac compressor because the existing one is leaking. I was also told that the ac control head is bad. The total cost is $2,400.

I can get a new ac compressor at rockauto for about $280 and I saw a post on here showing a pretty straight forward removal and replacement.

However, I am a novice and was wondering if this is an easy job whereby I simply put my 2 front tires on a couple ramps, remove the 2 bolts for the compressor and the one for the ac line, replace with the new compressor and recharge.

Does that sound about right?

Also, what is the ac control head?

3.0 litre? If so basically correct except 4 bolts for the compressor. Loosen the serpetine belt. Here is a link:

V8 models the engine has to be raised!

AC control head is the temp dials and such inside the vehicle.

Default New A/C Compressor this week

Jag service replaced the compressor this week under extended warranty.
Invoice showed total cost of approx $1000 with $100 deductible.
This is the 2nd compressor repaced on '07 STR. 1st was replaced in 2008.
Is this normal?

Definitely not. Most cars never get through one.

Do you run it regularly (e.g. by leaving it on auto)?

Any idea why the 1st one needed changing?

If something failed leaving unremoved debris then that could account for the 2nd
