Default A/C cured

After a year and half of chasing gremlins and replacing parts, I finally have A/C. I finally gave up and took the car to the dealer. 750.00 later, they could not figure out what was wrong. Ran into a mechanic at a salvage yard, said he could fix it. Gave it a shot. Turned out to be three burned wires deep in the harness. Spliced in new ones and now have the vent , A/C and heat working properly.

Wow, great find.

Any idea which wires were damaged? Was the damage caused by an internal fault, i.e. an electrical overload? Or was it an external fault, such as a wire rubbing against the chassis?

Not sure what caused it, but he said he was surprised the whole thing didn't catch on fire.

Did you get your money back from the dealer? You shouldn't have to pay for guesswork or excuses.
