Cabin Air Filter

Greetings!
While chasing my heat/AC problem it was suggested to check/change my cabin air filter. I read JagV8's post and have a question. The filter has a lip/flap that runs the entire width both top and bottom. When I pulled it out of the packaging the lip/flap was folded forward which would be on the back side of the filter when it is in place [backside as the air flows through]. The filter that I pulled out had the flaps folded forward against the top and bottom of the filter frame. Probably not a big deal but wondering which would be correct. The original filter was quite clogged with debris and spider nests. Don't know if this made a difference as the temps have dropped into the 40's today but for $23 it needed changing anyway. I also changed out the ambient air sensor yesterday. It did not seem to make any difference but now it is displaying the correct exterior temp.
