California Registration?

The 2003 STR is moving to San Diego in June. It's spent it's entire life in Virginia and it does not have California emmisions. I was on the Cali DMV website, they give you 20 days to register an out of state car in California, it looks simple enough but I'm not sure it will pass their standards.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
Thanks,
Bob

It's possible to go either way. One thought is to print out the Calif. standards and take them to a local smog shop and run your car thru it. That way, you'll know for sure and if (outside chance) it does fail, you'll have time to fix it there..or here before registering.
Good luck and welcome to Calif.

I don't believe this car has ever been emission tested. I know that our other S 4.2 registered in PA has passed emissions here every year. Is the California smog test difficult to pass? What is different about a California STR than those sold in the other 49 states?
When it arrives in California, other than a checkbook, what else do I need to take to the DMV?

Alot of time! Remember to Make an Appointment, otherwise your day will be shot. No Joking.
Appointment System
Thoughts on passing smog:
Premium gas ran thru one full tank before test.

Is this the proper procedure?...
Make appt at closest DMV center.
Show up with STR, Virginia registration, drivers license, title, proof of insurance and checkbook, should I get a California driver's license too?
Is all of this finished in one visiton the spot?
The site says you have 20 days to do this. Does the highway patrol routinely stop out-of-state vehicles and check to see how long they have been in California?

If it's basically all stock it should pass, You need the smog test done before you go to DMV and yes you should get your drivers license too. The check will have to be from a bank in Calif. or cash. To avoid the lines you can join AAA and do your car registration there, but you still have to go to DMV for your drivers license.

Good idea on AAA. The auto club can do about 90% of what the dumvee does. Check with them first...
Here's a link to the local San Diego office. It shows the wait time for appointments and non- appointments, also shows wait times for other local offices and methods of payment.
Good luck..
