Angry Caliper Mounting Bracket Bolt

I have a 2001 S-type and I was driving on the highway and i hit a bump and heard metal clang across the bottom of the car then I would brake and it would grind. Stopped to look and the bolts holding the caliper in place were both gone... Called Autozone, pep boys, o'rielly, advanced, nothing... Saw someone say they got a replacement at Lowe's but didn't list the size or specs. I was curious if anyone else knew. Thanks.

go back to auto stores and have them provide you with a caliper bolt from a 2001 Lincoln LS

You might want to get under your car once in a while and check a few things over. Check bolts missing, broken parts and road damage.

Just good practice.

Go to the dealer to get the bolt. You need the right length, thread pitch and also strength. Use some cheap bolt and snap them both off when you hit the brakes hard.

+1 dealer

Could use Ford & Lincoln LS, I expect, but it'll not save much. You do want a good strong part as Tony says.

If you aren't going to say something useful don't post at all smartass. I had already checked previously and everything was in place and sturdy. To everyone else thanks. They didn't have it for Lincoln LS either but I got some shipped from a different state, Jag shop here was going to charge $50 just for the two bolts before tax.

I think tbird6's post was appropriate. The bolts must have been loose to the point of falling out and if you'd been under the car you'd have found that and fixed it I hope.

jross4892,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums.

You're going to sometimes receive replies to your posts that strike you the wrong way. My advice is that when this inevitably happens, take a deep breath before you respond. Most members truly want to help, but have limited time and may type their message and submit it a little too quickly, without considering how it may possibly be misinterpreted. Without the benefit of facial expressions and tone of voice to help us interpret the language of others, it's easy to misunderstand and overreact.

We try to be a light-hearted, friendly, and helpful forum, so please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum and post an introduction so we can give you a proper welcome and learn something about you and your Jaguar.

Cheers,

Don

When you receive the new bolts, be sure to clean the caliper threads and add some thread locking fluid to the bolts before installing them. Also be sure to tighten them to the correct torque specification.

I for one vote to kick the 0P out of the form forever.

The response was appropriate you can't drive forever hoping that everything is fine you have to check the car out once in a while.

The bolts fell out because The OPA never services his car and doesn't stay on top of maintenance repair. And of story goodbye

If the only reply to every request for help was, "MAINTAIN YOUR VEHICLE," this forum would be completely useless.

tony1963, I can't help but notice that you've been a member for three years, yet in all that time you have only thanked other members twice.

tbird6, you've been a member for five-and-a-half years, yet you have only thanked another member once.

Seriously? Has this forum been of so little benefit to the two of you?

jross4892 just joined last month, but 2 of his total of 7 posts have been to thank other members for their helpful posts. So far, he's looking like a much better forum citizen than either of you two.

Thread closed.
