Hello. While trying to diagnose my electric parking brake fault (2005 S-Type VDP) I came across many suggestions to recalibrate the system. Everything from disconnecting batteries to unplugging the cables from the EPB module located in the trunk to pressing the brake 5 times while activating the parking brake to tapping on the rear brake calipers to disengage the parking brake. My original problem started when I git into the car and started to drive away. I got this incessant beeping noise similar to the anti collision back up alarm. Then the instrument panel lit up with Parking brake fault and I could feel the brakes grabbing. Ultimately, either by dumb luck or maybe from following some of the suggestions, the parking brake released, but the fault warning remained and the brake could not be engaged. The car drove fine once the PB released but the incessant alarm and the warning remained. Now I told you that story to tell you this one. During my many attempts at solving the problem, I removed the right side trunk cover that exposed the EPB module. I noticed this wire (see image) just sitting there, not plugged into anything. I couldn't fine an unplugged receptacle anywhere near where it was laying and there seems to be no place on the EPB module where it should go. Is this just something that should be connected to an accessory I don't have (Although this is the VDP edition. There's not many options this model doesn't have) or did it come loose from some place I can't find that may (hopefully) be associated with solving the parking brake problem? Thanks for any suggestions you may have.
Wow. Transit Isolation Relay. That's pretty cool. I'm impressed you would know that. Thanks. So I'll stop wondering whether it had anything to do with the parking brake problem. Just seemed weird seeing an unattached wire just sitting there. Of course now I'm going to start wondering what the transit isolation relay did. That's worse than getting the theme from the Brady Bunch stuck in your head.
Hey those are bad but don't get "Toy Solders" or "The Macarena" stuck in your head!!
Apparently Jaguar did ship some cars standing on end or some other strange position. This plug and relay kept the battery isolated from the car while it was in transit from the factory to the dealer. As Karl said this was a bit of a topic at one time and I "think" a factory tech finally explained what it was about.
You should fold it back and hide it in the wiring harness.
