Hello all, 1st time owner, s-type 2004 model,

I've been trying to read up about this park brake issue, and I'm not sure if what everyone else is experiencing is he same problem I have.

Basically the park brake button in the centre below the gear box is fully raised and will not depress - it appears to be stuck in this position. I've tried hard pressing it down but to no avail and don't want to press too hard in case I break it.

Obviously the park brake engages automatically when I take the key out of the ignition, but obviously I want to be able to use the park brake while car is still running and I have to pop out for a second. ( mainly because I've a young baby and live in Abu dhabi and he AC needs to be on constantly even when I go into a garage or something like that).

Anyway if anyone has any suggestions on how to remedy this without me having to make the costly visit to jaguar showrooms I'd greatly appreciate it,

Secondly, would the recalibration procedure be the right solution ? Not sure if it would be as the button itself seems to be stuck and won't depress and I'm not getting any warning light on the console.

I haven't heard of your problem, I think I'd be pulling the console out to access the switch, it sounds like a mechanical fault to me.

Yes, welcome. I agree with Norri.

The EPB reset procedure won't help you in this case. The brake should apply itself when the transmission is placed in the park position.

It could well be something has rolled under the little lever and is jamming it so you can't push it down. It's only a switch, so shouldn't be beyond a good DIY-er or general mechanic to fix. Good luck.

thanks for the comments gentlemen, after a little bit of strenuous (and probably ill-advised!) tugging, the EPB came free and now works (well mostly).

it was stuck it seems

Reading through this thread, I've been dying to know cost-- about how much on average to fix? My 2007 a type is having issues-- cannot apply park brake-- expensive? 500? 1000? 2000?

Might it be a less than perfect battery? It's a common cause and a whole lot cheaper. Maybe try a prolonged charge and hope.

If not that, you want to decide if it's the EPB's module or motor because they're not cheap and the motor is a LOT harder to change. Or the cables, which are another headache.

For all of those you get into which engine etc.
