Hey guys!,

Well when I start my car, in the morning cold weather, it kind of pulsates (my engine speed) the tach jumps around. after like 5-10 minutes everything is fine.. any idea on what might be happening?

This never happened last winter.

Please LMK

Thanks,
Paul

Hey same here! I have a 03 x 2.5 and it does the same thing in the morning. After about 35 seconds it clears up though. Any ideas anyone?

I think its a way for the engine to warm up,because mine has always done it.

Dang! Mine just revs a little higher than normal. No pulsating though. I just figured it was trying to get warm faster. After abut 34-40 seconds it stops. I guess it's nothing out of the norm.

You may want to hook up to a scanner and see what the oxygen sensors are reading. Also, check for vaccuum leaks. These may seal as the engine warms.

I got a feeling you all need IMT seals and a breather hose. You can spray throttle cleaner on the IMT valves when car is at idle and see if idle changes. If it does, change the seals. Also the same with the breather hose. There is a post I will try and link it

Hmmm I cant find it. There was a post with great pics of the IMT valves and breather. Sorry. It is there somewhere.

Well I just noticed that this thread is on S-types, but everyone that replied had X-Types.
Anyway, The IMT seals leak on S-Types too so these are the pics.

If you talking of high idle at first start, it is pretty normal for any of the 4.2 v8.
therecis software update for ECM but on cold start the idle can go as high as 2000 rpm
before mellowing out. If you have different problem, repost and I will let you know.

This is on cold start. It starts at 1150 rpm and goes down to 900 after about 20 sec's. Then it takes about 4 min. to slowley creep down to 750 rpm. It will pretty much stay there for a long time until I start driving. If I stop and put it in neutral it is at about 600 to 650 which I believe is about normal. However if I let it sit for awhile even though the engine is still warm it again takes a long time to go back down to the resting idle .

Yeah definitly sounds like you need software updates.
Those IMT seals btw, only on 3.0 Stype and all X-types.

Yea, the dealer told me about the software not being up to date and said that even though it is causing the car to not operate properly that updates are not covered by SE. They told me it would be 250.00 for updates. I called SE and they told me the same thing. I think that as long as a car in under warranty all software updates should be covered. Just my opinion.
