Default Car is Smoking while sitting in driveway

I was just awaken by my neighbor telling me my car was smoking from under the hood. I have a 2001 S type and I just got the car back a couple days ago from mechanic after putting in a rebuilt transmission. The car had not been drivin since 10 pm. and here it is 130am and the car was smoking. I popped the hood and no smoke came out but there is a very strong odor like something burning. It doesnt smell like oil. I tried to start it and it makes a rattling noise and doesnt want to turn over like a dead battery. Im definitely going to call mechanic in the morning but curious if anyone has any thoughts on this.

I'd guess at an electrical fault, maybe something damaged when the tranny was changed?

Money on a pinched wire(s) during install. Hope it works out for you, and glad you didn't lose your Jag.

Thanks. Thats actually what I was thinking as well. It does smell like something electrical. Hopefully its nothing too bad. I just bought this car a month and a half ago and already had to pay 5k for a rebuilt tranny. They also replaced the engine seal. Im wondering if its ok to drive to mechanic or should have it towed.

Did you disconnect the battery? If not and it stopped smoking it has probably either blown a fuse or melted a wire.
It would probably be wise to disconnect the battery now and have it towed or at least checked before driving it.
Good luck!
