Well, my mechanic got to the bottom of the problem -- he explained it to me but I can't for the life of me remember exactly what he said it was. He has a buddy who is a tech at the Jaguar dealership and the two of them tracked down a loose wire to some relay or something. That's the great news, the not so great news is it took him a few hours to track it down. I don't need a pump or a filter or a sending unit or anything! I just have to toss a few bucks in his direction and get the car back -- will be doing that tomorrow -- I'm thrilled!

Hey Mike-Hate to be a bother but that information is really key!! Just a loose wire is a cheap and fast repair but it does no body any good if it's not written down!

Any chance you can bribe your buddy to give us the answer?

Tell him you won't pay until you get the info.

Ok, this is was I was told --- between the mechanic and his buddy at the Jag shop, they spent four hours tracking down a loose connection (actually a disconnected wire) at the bottom of the fuel pump relay that he says in accessed from the trunk area. That's all I know -- BUT I'm happy, I got my car back and it's working just fine for now!

At least he didn't replace the $500 fuel pump!

Hey that's close enough!! Anyone can easily check that without spending 4 hours so it will be a big help.

I sure hope this helps someone else -- it's the kind of situation where I might've spent more than I truly had to, but since I don't feel bad about it, it's a good deal!

Now I can start working on the little things that bug me about this car - a list too long to include here! At least it's back on the road and running like a top (purring like a cat?)

I'm pretty sure that if the car had been at my house, I would've jumped to the conclusion that the fuel pump needed to be replaced (after replacing the fuel filter), and then I would've been stumped until I tracked down the electrical issue. I've been reading a bit about the fuel pump, and I know the repair instructions tell you to look at the wiring/voltages, etc. but I know myself better -- I would've thrown parts at it first, and checked the connections later! (I know, that's why I'm not a mechanic!)
