What is everyones opinions on the stock resonator?

Is there any reason to replace it? Is it corked up or pretty free flowing. And if it is corked up how much? It may provided just enough back pressure as to not lose the low end torque that many complain about when going with the high flow cats and magnaflow mufflers.

There's bunch of conflicting reports on loss of low end torque, but I haven't noticed such a thing when I did the full exhaust mod with magnaflows. I kept the stock piping size all the way through with 2.25". Increasing the piping size to 2.5" may be the culprit for that Plus my stock resonator is completely removed due to air restriction

I agree with leaving the piping at 2.25". I think this may be the compromise to keep from losing the low end torque.

I have a set of the 2.25" angled cats waiting to be put on our '01 since the passenger side cat is bad on that one. Just having a hard time finding a shop that will do it. But once I do and see what kind of job they do I will be doing it to the STR also.

Ok I was getting ready to order the parts for a new exhausrt when the wifey dropped the hammer and said she wanted the noise level to stay exactly the same on the car.

So I guess I will be changing only the cats. This is ok maybe down the rode I can upgrade the other parts.

Anyways I went to magnaflow and typed in my car and it recommended a 2 inch inlet and a 2 inch outlet cat. WTH?

Are they saying get a 2 inch because it can slip into the 2.25 stock pipe and be welded?

Also this is driving me crazy. I have got 2 different answers so I am abit confused.
They say the stock pipe is 2.25...if I order a 2.25 high flow cat how will it fit together to weld?

If I get a 2.5 cat will it slip over the stock pipe to be welded?

Or should I get a 2 inch cat that will slip into the stock pipe?

I really need the right answer...lol so I can order these cats...

Thanks guys

Also will I loose and torque with just going with high flow cats and leaving everything else stock?

Any pipe size within a .25 can be welded or clamped together. Don't sweat the smalls stuff.

Listen, just get the 2.25" stock Hi-flow cats and don't look back. You will be just fine, don't worry you shouldn't lose the low end torque
When you take your Hi-flow CATS to the weld shop they know what to do, and if they are competent enough, than they will know exactly what to do and how to get it attached properly. So really don't worry about it . As far as your wife wanting the quiet ride, you will be just fine just swapping out the cats for now

Good Luck.

As yas may be aware, I run a K&N air filter, Mafioso air intake elbow, 3 lb pulley, low temp thermostat, Magnaflow hi-flo cats and x-pipe, 2 1/2" pipe to a pair of 12" Walker glass-packed tube mufflers to a pair of Walker Dynomax Super Turbo's...no loss but a big gain in low end torque.

You mean you already submitted your payment to them? If so you should have gotten a confirmation in your email that your order has been processed. Did you try calling them to find out? They are usually good with the orders placed.

They never responded to my offer either. Just call them and put them on order through the phone. They ended up around $79 ish a piece. Magnaflow has been out of them for almost a month now but they just came back in stock last week.

...yeah the best thing to do is place the order by phone to save time.

Take Care.

Do you run the x pipe straight into the center resonator? I've been thinking of just replacing the center resonator with the x pipe and swapping out the stock mufflers for a pair of borlas, along with the magnaflow catalytic converters.
