Default cd changer wiring

I have searched and still no answer for this. I have an S type 4.0 2000 model year. Has premium radio . I purchased a factory cd changer from e bay . I cant seem to find the 12 pin plug in my harness. I have tried left rear and right rear in trunk. Also thought may be in behind glovebox so I tore that all apart. Still no plug that I can find. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks

Maybe not pre-wired. Later (2003+) cars tend to be.

I did find the 12 pin plug buried in a harness in tape at left rear. I plugged in cd changer clarion type to the plug and the radio simply says no cd found. Is possible changer is bad. I have the radio with the Dolby button not DSP. Cd changer powers on and moves inside as I opened cover to see what was going on in there. I have had radio out and green plug inserted on back of radio, black 12 pin plug has no place to plug in at rear of radio. Maybe wrong radio? I am confused .

I found that I have the wrong radio for a changer to work. No place that the cd changer can plug in to rear. Hence I order a "Premium" radio. with correct plug ins.

Zippy8792 - I also have a 2000 S Type - 4.0 - for the 2000 model year the CD player is installed in the glove box. 2 things - you need to find a CD player with the brackets to install in the glove box. (the mounting holes are already there and threaded - just match up the brackets) You will also need to source the glove box liner that will accomodate the CD player.

The harness is buried behind the glove box - off to the left near the radio. I successfully installed the factory CD player with ease in my S Type - Keep in mind the 2000 S Type CD Player does NOT get installed in the trunk... Hope this info helps!

I thought is was to be mounted in the glovebox too. I found the harness in the trunk finally after I tore the complete glovebox and radio assembly out. Found that the harness ran toward the rear out from the radio area. I plug the changer in the trunk and it powers up. It may have been only earliest S types that mount in the Glovebox .Last of my vin numbers are L70276 built late April 2000.
I am certain I have the wrong radio currently installed as it is not the one capable of taking the 12 pin connector at the radio. There is no place to plug this connector in on this radio. There are steering wheel control connector, and the other speaker and power connectors plugged in . I ordered one from ebay same color but in the premium line and with the additional plug opening on the rear of the radio. This car has every option but factory Nav and cd changer .

Whoever thought up the glove box idea should must have been stoned.

So you have a plug behind the radio with no socket?

The plug for the CD player should be wrapped up in the radio harness. Anyway, that is how I came across it - the CD player harness was already plugged into the radio and the pigtail connector that plugs into the CD player was wrapped up in the harness. I didn't even have to remove the radio to look for the connectors in the back - I simply wuwrapped the CD player pigtail connector from the harness and plugged into the CD player and viola! I could play my CD's... There is a connector in the trunk - I believe that is for the navigation system.

Correct. Nav unit is in the trunk. I find myself flip-flopping back and forth with the my preference on the changer in the glove box or in the trunk. Granted the space in the glove box is reduced.... but it is a pain to run back to the trunk... especially on the road with children who want to change cd's in the changer or the dvd.
FWIW, I too have had changer issues in the past. and despite the literature, i've gone into the changer to clean and lubricate it. works like a charm now.

Got my new radio plugged all the connections in and I still get the No cd found message. I think maybe the changer is truly bad. Oh well.

When I went looking for a cd changer for my o3 Stype, Car Toys told me that my car may not be hard wired for the CD changer (they said they could only tell by opening the boot/truck and looking behind the left rear panel where the CD changer is suppose to fit) and that if one was installed, it had to be programmed by Jaguar to be recognized. That sounds logical to me, but I'm just passing on what I was told. You might call Jaguar or Car Toys or some auto radio store to see what they say. I"d be curious to know what you find out.

The 1999 - 200o models were hard wired for the CD player, which would be located in the glove box - 2001 and onward were located in the trunk. Could be the case for late 2000 model production as well.

Hi, I have a 2004 S-type with a radio and a CD player, no changer for 6DCs. If I buy one, how can I install it and would I need to remove the radio I have from the dash to replace it by an other receiver? Thanks Marc

Why not replace the CD with an I Pod? It works great in my car.

Hi Gus,

Thanks a lot for the advice, but I am a novice in that field and would like to know how you can replace the CD with an Ipod. Would it play the music through the speakers?

Thanks

Marc

Marc,

Yes it will play using the radio controls and depending on the level of the interface device will dictate the options available. I am not an expert in this area but I am sure you will hear from others as to what is available and what is good. I installed one in my xk8 & S Type and use it often on long trips.

I am also checking out eBay for a CD changer.

I am getting a bit scared off about the potential problems adding a CD changer but will check the boot if there is another 12 pin connector other than the SatNav DVD player.

Anyone who can suggest someone to do this for me, near Heathrow or Cambridge. That would save me getting frustrated.
