Central Locking Faulty

Central Locking Faulty
Hi all,
As an owner of a 2004 Jaguar S-Type 2.7D Automatic Diesel I have a small issue. The central locking appears to be having an intermittent issue whereby the key sometimes works in either locking or unlocking it. I have changed the battery just in case. Also with this fault, after I have driven somewhere (either long or short journey) and as I attempt to get out of the car by using the handle - the doors remain locked. I therefore either wait for a passenger to open their door or I push the button on the instrument panel. I wonder if this is a common fault and if their is a way to fix it.
Many thanks
Wullie

I think I have had the central locking stay locked after turning the ignition off about 5 times in 2 years and a couple of months ownership.
Same as yours the drivers side inner door handle did not unlock it either so I had to use the key in the outer door lock with he window open.
I did not think of using the global lock/unlock on the centre console.
Its a minor glitch and nothing major in my book. I realise that with mine which is a 16 year old car its going to have some glitches.
My previous car and Mondeo which was 20 years old would still have the engine running when I had turned the ignition off, removed the key,
got out and locked the door. After about 5 minutes I called the recovery company. It wasn't that amusing.,

This is just a guess but it may be a fault with the micro-switch in the drivers door latch. (Or the wiring to it.)
If this remains 'on' rather than switching on and off then I think it could cause the fault you describe.
I am not sure if the latch can be taken apart to access the switch, a new latch may be required.?
You may be able to test the latch switch is working at the wiring connector, but if not the latch will have to come out.
But I may be wrong so it could be a lot of work for no gain!??
