changing air filter, rocket science?

changing air filter, rocket science?
I reseached this website and tried to find on JITS a simple air filter replacement. I found joycesjag's posting on cabin filter and changed that no problem. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...t=cabin+filter thank you for that!
I found nothing on the simple air filter....
well 45 minutes later I'm cursing and can't figure it out.
I pulled the two latches back (releasing the front side on the filter cover), after I loosened the clamp on the air intake, and saw four tabs on the back side of the casing. I pulled up and got it removed. I put the new filter in and could not for the life of me get the cover back on!!!
I actually just broke one of the latches on the right side and one of the back tabs!!!! It's on, still sealing for the most part, but broke now. I tried for almost an hour in 100 degree temp (but in my garage). It doesn't go back on! I can't get the back tabs under, fitting in the in the slots making the outer two click in place.
What am I missing? I can change the water pump on my 2000 stype but can't change the filter on my 2005 STR?????
Thanx. (I sure hope no one was watching me..)

I found that on my 2005 3.0 it was much easier to remove the air intake tube first. After that was removed I had pretty easy access to the filter. You may want to put some duct tape around the edges of the airbox just as a backup to ensure a good seal. This should hold until you get the new casing.

I have a 2005 STR and it's a pain in the butt!! I have figured out a much easier way. I remove the entire air box and intake tract. All in one piece. It's a piece of cake to remove and install. There is one 10 mm bolt near the drivers fender that holds down the air box. A worm drive clamp attaches the intake tubing the blower inlet casting. I also loosen the worm clamp on the MAF for more flexibility. Unhook two electrical connectors. The fresh air flap on the air box and the MAF connection.
Also unhook the small breather tube that goes to the valve cover. The round plastic skirt must be pinched and pulled straight out to remove. You should have a small plastic rivet holding down the cold air intake on one side to remove. Mine was missing. Now you can wiggle the plastic tube off the Aluminum casting and work the entire assembly out of the car. Very easy to open the air box and change filters now. Also a good time to clean the MAF. Mine was pretty black and a few quick squirts of carburetor cleaner and was spotless. Car seemed a bit more responsive too.

Ok, the drama continues. I called Hennessey Jag and they are trying to get me the entire assembly, cheap. The issue, there aren't any Apparently there is a supplier issue and they are out even in the UK. None at other dealers. It's the dang STR version (the parts guy stated it is different, they have the other models 3.0+ with no problem, something about the super charger) causing the issue And I haven't heard back from the salvage company...

The good new out of this is I have another post for the ACM (Audio module) and the dealer had one orderd for another customer that didn't pick it up and he wanted to get rid of cheap!

A salvage company from http://www.car-part.com/ called and he was nice but said he can't find the R version of the air box cover anywhere!!!!
I think I broke the only piece on my car that isn't available!!!

I think the STR airbox is unique in that there's an extra air flap used during WOT and so on. Wellll..... I know it's there somewhere but I don't know if that definitely means the box is different, I just kinda figure it must be.
If it's just the cover, it could be the same as the other models.
Duct tape should be OK if it will seal properly. It's not THAT hot in the airbox!

They made it sound like the cover might be different in addition for the R. As for the duct tape, I was worried more about the engine temp. The tape would be on the outside of the airbox, that engine gets hot!!!! ouch..
The dealer thought the tape should withstand the engine temps in Atlanta during summer, it might discolor though.

joycesjag, thanx, I tried the number and no answer or voice mail. I'll try again in the morning.
what is the deal with the random posting from: Staatsof
I've contacted the admin asking about these?????
I really don't like the car listings they keep posting, etc.
