Default Rear Map Light update with LEDs

I didn't see any pictures posted for the rear map light change, so here are a few from my update... I hope this helps someone!

There are two little flaps you need to pry open with a small screwdriver to access the #20 torx screws.

Here is a shot of the screws behind the flaps.

The whole unit pulls down so you can access the bulb sockets. Just twist them and the bulbs pull out. Very easy!

Plug the LED into the socket and reassemble.

Here is a comparison shot of the starndard bulb vs the LED. BIG difference! I think this is one of the easiest things you can do to update the look of your car... Enjoy!

Default LED kits or part numbers

I would like to go blue on the interior lights, footwell and rear dome and door.

Has anyone figured out the proper LED to bulb conversion part numbers?
Ones that fit without having to mod anything?

Also, it appears there is a trick to removing these covers without damaging the darn thing. Any hints there>?

Do you get any kind of error come up on the dash by using LED bulbs. Whether interior bulbs or sidelight bulbs.

Thanks

Thanks to MOMO & Craig for photos and discriptions, made the job of swapping out the filiment lamps for LEDs easy, and whilst I was at it I swapped the little orange downlight for a green one (3mm LED) to match the ones in my door cards.
Unfortunatly after all that work, I decided the white LEDs were too harsh, so I swapped back to the warm, yellowish glow of the old lamps. Hay ho.

I also replaced the dome light and map lights with LEDs. Put it all back together and not one of them work. I must of pulled this thing down 70 times and reinstalled. Not sure what's going on but it does not work. But every other interior light is working fine

Non-LED don't care about + and - but by definition LEDs do. (Think what the D means.)

Yeah. I put LEDs in my cadillac and put everything back together only to find out some came on and others didnt. Had to double-work

Depends on the quality of the LED assembly too. Look at the 194 bulb you took out (in comparison) and you'll see that some of the cheaper LEDs have very little contact area, and have to be placed just right into the socket....maybe more than one time.

On a 2002, it couldn't be easier. Entire rear housing just pops out (no screws, just small plastic tabs). Gently wiggle it down, using a small fine tipped screwdriver. Assembly separates at the 4 tabs, and you can see which end should be pried...it's got a lift tab. Bulbs will now be accessible. 5 minute job each. The 2 under the dash are 194 also (on order) and are easy to get to. The front map lights will be next. Remember that the single thin wires on the LEDs need to make good contact. Less of an issue with quality ones that are thick like the old bulbs that came out.

I'm not sure if it's the same in the 2000 model. I have one tiny assembly on each side in the rear. The lights under the dash are not covered and easy to get to. I will try to pry the housing off l, but i want to be sure before I separate them from my headliner
