Hi Forum, Took the car to my mechanic and got the rear brakes done. Holding down the parking brake while turning off the car did the trick. However, now I have a warning light...."parking brake cannot engage" when I turn the car off...any thoughts?

Some ideas:
1. does it engage if you pull up paddle with engine running?
2. try recalibrate - see HowTos
3. could battery have gone a bit flat? e.g. did you leave key in while doing work?

No, I tried pulling it up and down with the engine running and I get the same message. I dont think the key was left in as I told them specifically to take the key out.....but I can and probably should get the battery checked. I'll check the how to's to see how to recalibrate. Thanks

Found this on the forum a little while back and added it to my "Jag notes".

EPB Reset (use switch to disengage EPB BEFORE changing pads!)
---------------
a. Switch off the ignition.
b. Disconnect the battery for 30 seconds.
c. Reconnect the battery.
d. Start the engine.
e. Firmly apply and release the footbrake five times.
f. Confirm that the message ‘NOT CALIBRATED’ or ‘APPLY FOOT AND PARK BRAKE’ is displayed on the instrument cluster
message center. This indicates that the parking brake is in calibration mode.
g. Lightly press the footbrake pedal.
h. Apply the parking brake by using the EPB switch.
i. Release the parking brake.
j. Release the footbrake.
k. Confirm that the brake warning lamp is no longer illuminated on the instrument pack and that the ‘NOT CALIBRATED’ message is no longer displayed in the message center.
l. Apply and release the EPB five times to ensure no error is present.
