Question Cicking noise coming from Engine

When I do a cold-start (in the morning or parked for while), I hear the clicking noise around the fan belts. It goes away after a short drive. I think some bearing or wheels require some lubricant, but it’s real hard to determine which.

Also, when I accelerate (1-2 gear, up-hill), I hear some knocking noise from the engine. This also seems to go away after the warm-up.

Any ideas?

Statement of the obvious: it could be any of the things the drive belt passes over.

Perhaps #1 suspect would be the tensioner.

I think I heard a pro would spray something (harmless!) on it to see how the note changed or some such but don't mess without finding whether that's so and what is safe to spray. (OK, a pro might KNOW what it would be.)

Have you checked the drive belt isn't frayed or breaking up?

Have you checked its tension mark?

Maybe this is a job to take to a shop tech.

Check your oil level. Could be valve clatter because of low oil level.

A mechanic's stethoscope is the best tool for finding these pesky engine bay noises. About $20 at your chain auto parts stores if you can't borrow one from somebody. Yep, check your oil level, your belt, and then use the stethoscope to start listening to the components that the belt drives. Start with the tensioner, then move to the water pump, and so on down the line. Watch out for that spinning fan blade....

Thanks for the inputs... I will check out the tensioner first and find that spray
The oil is good as I topped it after replacing IMT O-rings.
