Clear Coat Flaking

Clear Coat Flaking
First of all, I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas.
So it seems that my clear coat is flaking off on a small section on the roof. I attached a few pics. Sorry, its probably not that clear.
My friend told me it was probably best to have a shop sand off that section and repaint it.
I was going to take it into a shop, but then thought I can probably do it myself. Just wondering if anyone had any advice on how I may go about repairing this.
Thanks!
(PS: In case I do end up taking it into a shop, anyone know a "fair" price for the work? It will help me in the estimate gathering process...thanks)

Sal - Sadly this seems like an issue on many of the S Types. I have had the same issue with mine in spots. You could try to polish it out with an orbital polisher and a few compounds but likely you will still see the blemishes.
Best thing to do is probably have a shot re-spray the effected area and be done with it. From your photos looks like the roof, I am not sure on the cost of shooting the roof, but I had my entire bonnet done and the shop charged me $700 parts and labor out the door on a cash deal.
Good luck with her!

I wouldn't attempt the spraying it myself unless you are a very good experienced painter. It's likely that the whole roof will need re-spraying or at the very least re clear coating.
The trouble is the new paint will need to blended in to a soft line or ridge take the repair invisible.
You could machine polish it as a tempory visual improvement but the actual un protected paint will be exposed to the elements.

Now a second option would be to go with a tuner look and get some vinyl maybe some of that carbon fibre looking stuff and just cover the entire roof with a wrap!! :-P
