Default click click click click sound....

Good morning and I hope everyone is having awesome holidays!
I have a 2006 s type - sport 3.0...best car I ever owned...still under warranty with easy care...its the top package...total care I think?

Lately - when I have been driving....if I am in first or second....I hear a click click click clicking sound as I press on the gas....its coming from the engine....

This care is really taken care of....oil changes done every 5000km with a $15 oil filter...only use the best....so its nothing that has to do with me not taking care of the car.

I just wanted to know if anyone has heard this noise? I use Shell VPOWER fuel - 91 octane....eth free...

thank you and have a wonderful New Year!!

Welcome! Turn off the climate control as a means to shut off the a/c compressor. A worn compressor or water pump can make the sounds. Does she "click" in gear while driving, not becoming faster with engine RPM? If yes then it may be the two-piece lug nuts clicking away as you drive then going away as they become pinned together via centrifical force. Check under the hood. If an engine click, then it should speed up with RPM's. Snoop around.

Thank you for your response. This only happens in Drive - in first or second....or 3rd maybe...going around 30 or 40 km....the clicking speed does increase to the best of my knowledge depending on the RPM...also....the sound does go away around 60 or 70....and a lot of times it won't even happen..if I am coasting at that speed...no noise..if I hit the gas lightly to keep it up to speed...also no noise...if I give her a bit of a push....I will hear it........If put the car in N....hit the gas....no clicking..same with in park.....I will shut off the climate controll....and try it as well....
These Lug Nuts you are talking about....is this a dangerous thing that is happening to me? Safe to drive the car? I am still under full warranty for another 13 months...

I also have that rear diff whine going on at about 100km an hour....which I have to have looked at...

SIXX DOGG,

Re the diff whine - take the car to an independant diff specialist, explain to him the problem, and get a written report from him. Then go back to the dealer and make sure that the problem is dealt with under warranty. that way you have proof of the warranty claim, even if the dealer fails to fix it while it is still ubder warranty. i'd guess that the pinion or carrier bearings need adjustment. Left unattended to, failure of the diff will eventually occur, besides which, if the noise is there when & if you decide to sell the car, it will detract from its saleability to your cost.

The 'clicking' noise is more worrying. Clearly, it is engine speed related. And given that it fades away when the engine isn't under load, but is clear when the engine is, I'd worry. It could be something simple like a spark plug lead arcing under load (examine each lead closely for a black spot on the outside close to metal), or it could be something much more sinister, like a cracked piston or valve lifter.

A clue to a spark arc would be a bit of a misfire under load, since the spark plug itself would not be getting a full spark discharge. A piston or lifter would be harder to detect, but a good start would be a good old fashioned compression check.

Good Luck,

Languid

If it were mine, I'd want it found & fixed pronto.

i may be wrong but i belive the jag does not have ht leads, but a "coil" on each plug.

Lug nuts are safe. They come as a two piece design that ends up with a loose outer chrome piece. That she clicks when you nudge the gas while in drive at 60 KPH may signify a drivetrain issue.

OK guys', coil on plug. My Rangie isn't that up to date with the space age. But I'd still look to see if there is any arcing occuring from the coil to the engine, because an electrical arc @ 30,000+ volts is certainly load enough to be heard even in the cabin of a Jag.

Best of luck, SIXX DOGG, I hope it does turn out to be something simple like that. Keep us up to date with what you find.

Languid.

To arc like that, if it's even possible, would surely cause misfires and thus misfire codes I reckon.

Is it pinging? You wouldn't expect that in N, which fits the OP.

Happy New Year fellas!
Car runs amazing - no engine pinging....sounds smooth as pie when I first start her and she is idoling...
No warning lights ever....u think there would be with an engine noise like this?
My Jag mechanic is away till the 9th....going to wait till he gets back...and take her in.
THANK GOD FOR A WARRANTY!
