2003 3.0L non-nav, non-premium sound.

Anyone tried removing the fan-speed knob from the climate control?
I've fitted an eBay module to trouble-shoot a vexing problem and, although testing is not yet complete, it's looking good so far.....

However, the fan speed knob on the replacement unit is a bit knackered:



I realize I could go at it carefully with a bit of matte-black paint, or transfer the circuit boards between the old and new housings....but it'd be much easier all 'round to pop the knob off each, and swap. I pulled outward, but not too hard, didn't want to break it....but nothing gave.


Edit 1/19/17: Neeevvver mind....testing has gone awry. Looks like I can swap climate controls back entirely if I want.
