clockspring centering
Removed the clockspring in my 2005 s type 3.0l. I rotated the center piece of the clockspring before realizing that the alignment with the steering wheel is critical. Steering wheel is very close to center. It was only moved enough to access screws for removal. My plan is to center the clockspring revolving portion (noted 4 turns stop to stop) and installing it with steering wheel centered. If would appreciate any advice/comments that might prevent me from destroying the clockspring tape. My first post with thanks to all of the previous information provided by forum members.

My 2004 XJ8 is the same as your S-Type. I damaged my clockspring while replacing my rack and pinion assembly. So I removed it and repaired the solder connections on the ribbon cable. All seemed to work fine for about a thousand miles until the ribbon cable (clockspring) pinched on me as I had it to loose. Luckily I found one in a S-Type at the local LKQ and pulled it myself for about $20. Lesson learned.
