Mine does that a little when moving off, particularly when it's cold and/or in the wet. Most probably a kink in one of the pressure plates. It doesn't bother me that much, and if you spin her up a little as you engage it sort of "spins" out of it. With regard to special tools, it's possible that I'm being hopelessly naive here, but isn't that just a Ford Transit clutch & 'box?

Have you posted on the UK board? Very few manuals in the US so we don't have any experience with the problems on those models.

Very few here, too. Maybe more than USA?

I've seen them described as an awkward & heavy clutch.

On the auto (as everyone here knows), the EPB auto-releases. Does the manual not do that? Does the handbook not give details?

The clutch action is no heavier or more awkward than any other manual car. The shift is shall we say, "manly", but not unpleasant.

Hi Garry,

I'm in the UK up in Scotland and have a facelift 2005 2.5 Manual S-Type also which I've had now for 7 years.

Depending on the steepness of the hill, you may just need to slip the clutch just a little to overcome the problem until sufficient speed has built up. Mine tends to do this on the incline of my driveway when reversing out onto the road. If you find moving off forward is okay with no shudder etc., then I would be inclined to leave well alone. What mileage has your car covered? Mine is now on 80000 and is running as sweet as a nut.
Regards,
Inver.

Well I have 174,000 and still original clutch. I put every mile on the car except the first 53 miles! It is mostly highway mileage (100 miles a day).

But I am getting a bit nervous. I don't feel anything out of the ordinary. No judders, squawks, etc. In fact, every now and then, I punch the car to see what she will do. She just sucks in a huge amount of air and shoots forward.

My question here will be, when the clutch decides to show me it is worn, what type of symptoms will there be? Is there any marker or indicator on car to show what it's condition is?

Thanks in advance.
