Ford specifies Mercon SP as the ATF for the 2005-2008 Lincoln Navigator using the ZF6hp26.
Interestingly, If you look at the material data sheet ford filed with the EPA, Ford licenses this fluid and doesn't manufacture it... Although the manufacturer is not listed.
"Produced for the the ford motor company under license".
It's either rebranded shell, or ZF lifefguard 6 itself.
The flash points are listed as different BUT, viscosity is exactly the same, and all the dangerous decomposing products are the same...
Some light reading attached.
Take care,
George

they are same , the colour is same as per data sheet , mercon sp is dyed red later according to motorcraft to identify leaks more easily as per ford instructions
the flash point of lg6 is less cause data sheet is from 2006 but mercon data sheet is from 2008 and synthetic based
find lg6 data sheet from 2008 , it shows almost same flash point and everything , just slightly different maybe due to different testing methods
like flashpoint in zf data says typical 210 (coc) and in mercon 218 c c
i think its yhis coc and c c that makes it different (i can be wrong just my thinking)
ignition temp , vapour preassure , vapour density , boiling point , upper lower explosion limit , water sloubility , pour point(read somewhere else)
and lot more is exactly same
only flash point and viscosity are little different and also difference is just of few % and that i think is just due to different testing methods or just cause its blended here in america , method or chemical might cause a little difference but my opinion just says its just testing method
i am putting mercon sp in my gearbox , if its good for zf box in lot heavier navigator then its good for our zf box
all the zf boxes 6hp26 in every manufacturer let it be audi , vw , jaguar , land rover etc have same fluid and can be bought from any dealer and used and all use lg6
why wud zf custom make one off 6hp26 that uses a completely new fluid?
latest lg6 bottles after 2008 say synthetic transmission fluid
i am pretty convinced and enuf to put it in my stype r
its just my opinion , please do your own research and use at ur own risk
i can be wrong , everything is possible
cheers

Mercon SP, Shell 1374.1, Lifeguard 6
Mercon SP is Shell 1374.1 is Lifeguard 6, for the zfhp26 transmission in whatever vehicle. Reference can be made to the ZF website. If anyone interested, I have an excess supply of Mercon SP in the UK, properly imported for my Lincoln Navigator, at less that half the cost of Lifeguard 6 under any other label. You can contact me on restemmons@aol.com. Thanks.

I had my check engine light come on, then the "Restricted Performance" display. Went to Advance Auto for the free check. It read #7 ignition coil, changed that no difference went back to Advance and now it reads code P0207 #7 fuel injector circuit

bernieii - before replacing that injector - Check the electrical connector to fuel injector #7 - make sure connector is on there nice and tight! (especially if the plastic connector tab is broken or snapped off which is very common on these engines) - your code indicates the connector is loose...

Power steering pressure sensor - only sold by Jaguar as part of a pipe (costing over $200 in the part of the world) - part no: XR8-33363.
Used on the Lincoln LS, Ford part number XW43-3N824-AA0312. Cost me less than $45 for the sensor on its own (no unnecessary pipework)
I have also been looking at brake hardware on Rockauto - specifically caliper guide pins and bolts. The parts listed for the 2001 S-type and 2001 LS are the same (front and rear). That led me to check the following:
Front and rear calipers - same part numbers
Master cylinders - each one looked at had matching part numbers (Lincoln Interactive Vehicle Dynamics = Jaguar Dynamic Stability Control)
Front and Rear discs (rotors) - same part numbers
Brake boosters (servos) - same part numbers.
Caliper guide pins and bolts - same
Brake hoses front and rear - same part number
Caliper brackets front and rear - same part number
So at an educated guess I would say that every major component of the pre-facelft S-Type braking system matches the 2001 LS. I don't have the Lincoln part numbers but at least it means that for anyone with a Ford/Lincoln dealership nearby you can get the bits over the counter.
