jaguar 20:
Please do some searching and also we need what engine you have. Put it in your signature or somewhere. Yes this is pretty common. If you have a V-8 (I am guessing here!!) Be VERY careful of the large hose connection to the upper tank that has a wire retainer!! The wire clip must be pulled back before the hose will come off the tank nipple. Yes it is VERY tight in this area. One guy with a STR changed the top tank and thought everything was OK. The connection blew off while driving, the engine overheated and he burned two pistons destroying the engine. We have not heard back from him since. Last I heard he was into it for over $5K and that was with him doing all the labor!!

Jag20,

If it is the V6 it's relatively straight forward, probably less than an hours work, the topp connection is where mine broke too.
I can't remember exatly how the bottom hose is fixed but don't remember any problems with it.
Good luck.

My first Jag, 2000 stype 3.0, had the same issue. Apparently it was a recall so I'm not sure if you can get your car in to a dealer to see if that was still honored or something, or maybe a cut rate install. Mine was still in the extended warranty phase at the time. But I found out when my fan was coming on and staying on after I left the vehicle and when checked, no coolant in the reservior. The JITS guide would help you, to do it yourself. That's $10 on ebay.

Make sure you use the pink/orange coolent grade.

Well I guess on how much collant leaked out. In my case, a lot.
As for the coolant type, I don't remember green, etc but it has to be compatible with what you already have in there I would think.
Pink/Orange was the only type I knew was compatible.
Manual:
High temp low to -40, extended life Orange colored, spec WSS M97B44.

You might want to flush and refill your anitfreeze if you haven't done so already. I think they suggest that after 5 years. When I did mine I used Jaguar coolant (which I know is expensive).

Just to let you know. That spec is for Dex-Cool so it is available in any parts store.
