Default Cooling Fan

I have a 2005 S-Type R with 96,000 miles. Lately, it seems to me, that the cooling fan is on a lot. Is this, in itself a problem or indication that something needs servicing or checking? When I get home from an errand or a short drive the cooling fan seems to stay on for about 4 minutes. Is this unusual? I purchased the car in December 2013 and it had 92,500 miles then. I never noticed the fan on before as much as I do lately, especially upon arriving home. The temperature guage is usually pegged at about center once the engine warms up and has never gone above center, save one time when about a year ago I got the message "coolant level low" and I had to purchase upon recommendation, some coolant, PENTOFROST SF Extended Life Antifreeze, and mixed that and topped up the coolant expansion tank. Before I bought the car it had been serviced and Jaguar coolant filled the cooling system. This issue I've noticed for about 500 miles now.

After the vehicle has cold-soaked, remove the coolant reservoir cap and check the coolant level. If the level has dropped below the minimum, have the system pressure tested to determine the location and size of the leak.

Your car uses plain old DexCool. Why did you get that special coolant?

What/where does your coolant temp gauge read? If you were low on coolant, the needle would read over the halfway mark, which is when your fan should turn on. I was losing coolant, first from the tank itself, and a year later, from the water pump (both have been replaced). In both of those incidents, the fan would stay on for 3-4 minutes at shutdown. The gauge properly indicated HOT.

NBCat's right. A pressure test would reveal root cause. Hope it's not a head gasket - common in Cadillacs - which is why we have Jags!
