Corrupted VID Block S Type R ?
Hi All,
I've been chasing a battery drain and I fear that while using SDD ( Drew Tech Clone ) that i have corrupted my VID block.
I have lost variable steering, i have tried more than 1 FEM module, and despite programming it as S type r, with enhanced handling the steering is still heavy when parking.
Using 1 FEM the alarm is passive arming then causing a battery drain. Using my original FEM, sometimes the switch system power relays stay active.
I can program my remotes ( SDD recognises the signal from the remote when programming ) but they will not lock/unlock/open boot/light headlamps.
Any help of guidance would be most appreciated.
Reading other threads, I'm thinking to manually enter the VIN number and refit my original FEM, program it as a new module then program the ECM as new ?
i am still reading up on other Google searches and other Jaguar forum's.
Thanks in advance for any contributions.
Have a good lockdown weekend.

Version 130 from 2012 is probably the best on our cars. 138 will work but it is suposed to have issues, be less stable and as far as i know all the s-type updates are the same as with 130.
IDS can and often does have issues with the interface. From what I understand once the interface has been updated for use with SDD it is known that IDS may not start as it fails when it looks for the correct interface at start up.
You also need a power supply conected to the battery when programming that is enough to run all the electrics on the car. This is becuse if the battery voltage drops it will interupt the SDD update and can destroy the modules on the car. Jaguar recommend a 30 amp 13.8v regulated power supply. A 5amp battery charger will not be anything like enough to keep the voltage up!

Mellow is correct. A power supply - minimum 30A that can sustain 13.6v to 13.8v is necessary when attempting to program any modules and the power supply should provide smooth (non electrical surge/static supply)
Personally I use a 100a power supply I keep dialed in at 13.7v - never had an issue programming modules from either IDS or SDD.
Also, for a 2005 MY I'd be using IDS, opposed to SDD... but SDD will revert to Legacy IDS anyways...

Thanks for the replies.
I now use another car with jump leads and mointor the voltage. Its always at least 13.7.
Latop plugged into mains charger. But i think the damage has already been done when i wasnt following these guidelines.
Any ideas about my VID block and how i restore it ?
Thanks

I've read that.
When i program the ECM at the final stage it says ' VID block not programmed '
Been speaking to a friend at a jag dealership. Hopefully they can get hold of my original VID block, fingers crossed.

I had thought I read somewhere that when you install a used module from a different vin it will not match the vin stored in other modules so it flags it. I cant remember all the details but I really need to find out the mechanism behind it so I dont do the same.
if the vin doesnt match, why would the software try to rewrite the vid block with bad info??
somewhere else I believe I read that if you get into SDD after that and hot swap the module then reprogram it a certain way you can try and fix it. But let me find what it says because I could be high as a Georgia pine 🌲

My 05 (4.75) model year STR that was made in Jan/Feb 2004 always picks up the VIN number, identifies the car and goes with SDD. I have never tried to switch it to IDS.
