Default cowling - something something

Yesterday it was raining, and I drove my s-type R to the store and back. Later I went to drive it and the following messages showed: parking break error, no disc breaks, and parking brake error. Then it went into limp mode.

I took it to the dealer, and they said that water was leaking onto the throttle sensor. They are putting silicone over area to stop the leaking. However, they said that the "cowling" may need to eventually be replaced due to warping; price is $280.00. I asked him for a part#, but he acted like he didn't understand what I was asking.

Is this "cowling" something that the average person could replace on one's own? What's a good price for one? Is this a common problem?

Please let me know. Thanks.

Absolutely.

Search for IMT O-ring and find the thread with the DIY.

It's the first step in that procedure.

I wouldn't pay a dealer to do it.

Yikes, how would water get all the way from the cowling to the Throttle Body. Also, I certainly hope the water intrusion was only on the electrical connector and not the Throttle Body itself. If you search the S Type area for "limp mode" threads you would understand my concern over their "silicone" fix.

Our cowl was replaced along with the entire throttle body assembly last May as part of my wife's "limp home mode" experience. All under factory warranty at that time, thank goodness. So yes, the cowl can degrade and allow water into the engine bay....

As others stated above, if you decide to replace your cowl, do it yourself. Very easy to do....

Thanks for the help and the information.
