Default Cruise Control Oddities

So I just came back from a week's long road trip to Quebec and we noticed that the (non ACC) cruise control on this car does the following things.

If you "set it" and still have your foot on the gas pedal the "Cruise-On" lamp doesn't light up. I find that confusing.

If the crusie is on and you want to pass someone by stabbing the accel pedal it doesn't respond! It's very wierd as it does seem to respond a bit but not like you'd expect.

If you canel the cruise mode, pass and then resume the cruise mode it works normally.

Is this how this car is supposed to work?

It's not how my 20004 STR works, but I can't recall the details of your car so maybe it all changed.

Mine doesn't have a Cruise-On light (AFAIK), but briefly says CRUISE ENGAGED on the LCD. I engage cruise without really being aware what occurs (so in-grained!). I would often have my foot on the accel pedal unless resuming cruise when I typically wouldn't have my foot on the pedal.

I can accelerate as normal (AFAIK) regardless of cruise. I'll try it and try to memorise the exact behaviour some time (not likely going far for a week or so, so won't be soon, sorry).

When I have cruise engaged and want to pass someone, I accelerate around them and most times just let the car coast back down to the set speed, and continue on my way. I have no hesitation in pedal response.

So it sounds like my 05 STR has a problem.

I prefer cars WITHOUT drive-by-wire.

Default Drive-By-Wire-Virgin

OK, so a thought here. The gas pedal is just a big pot on this car with it's own internal return spring. So when the cruise is engaged does it return to the zero position and that's what I'm sensing when I step on the gas slightly and nothing happens?

Or ... is there a mechansim to hold the pedal in synch with the throttle position while the cruise is operating?
