Cruise Control Problem

Cruise Control Problem
I searched the forum, but didn't find my exact issue. Pushing the cruise control "On" button on the steering wheel is confirmed on the dash that cruise control is turned on, but pressing the + Set button or Resume button seems to have no effect. There is no message displayed on the dash and the cruise control does not work. Pressing the "Off" button does work and is confirmed on the dash that cruise control is turned off. Could this be a switch issue where I just need to replace the steering wheel switch assembly? Or is it some other component failure? There are no CEL codes. It's been non-functional since I bought the car used.
Thanks

Could be a dirty + switch. Clean or use it a lot and dirt should shift.
It would be a bit harsh to get a MIL for such a thing, even if the car can see the control is faulty! (I doubt it can anyway.)
Refer to electrical guide to understand what occurs. You could use a meter (DVOM) to test it.
I expect tests are in the workshop manual.
Both the above are free to download.

The ON and OFF buttons on the original switch assembly worked (the display on the dash would indicate cruise was on and off when the buttons were pressed), but the rest of the buttons seemed to have no effect. I bought a used switch assembly off ebay and installed it, but the functionality remained exactly the same. It's unlikely that both switch assemblies were defective in the exact same way so it must be something else. Maybe the clockspring like you suggest. I did find a used pump/solenoid assembly on ebay for only 25 bucks so I'm going to try that next, then maybe the clockspring. Thanks
