We don't do body work here. We do sell body parts so I get to talk to a lot of paint and body folks. My understanding is that the good shops are really getting a handle on the bumper repair. It's not as exotic as once thought.

But we are also blessed, look at all the little ones coming in (you're next Bull!). No-one has gotten seriously hurt, either. Just some battle scars on our cars...

Ditto to what Jeff says. All things considered, I can't complain too much. Granted, it was a bonehead move by my wife to back into that trailer hitch, but I've got more than $6,000 stashed away in my S-Type Repairs money market fund. This will be the first time I will make a withdrawal rather than a deposit since I opened the account in December 2008....

The estimate today turned out to be a little over $500 for everything required to fix this bumper good as new. Still well under half of what a new rear bumper would cost after it was primed and painted, not to mention the labor costs of removing the old one and installing the new one at a conventional body shop. If all goes as planned, the car goes in for repair next Monday evening. They'll need it for two days. We'll see....

A 'bonehead move"? I'm going to tell her you said that. To you it was a trailer hitch to her it may have been that "sticky out thingy" that she could not have been expected to see.

I already told her it was a "bonehead move" when she first took me outside to show me the damage. I calls 'em like I sees 'em, and she knows that. This is the second time she's hit a trailer hitch. I also told her, "Three strikes and you're out - do this again and we're putting you in an early 80s Chrysler K-car." As you might imagine, that didn't go over very well....

LOL my sister's husband was picking up the kids from school because she was sick. Mind you he drives a Chevy Suburban Urban Assault Vehicle - Black big wheels, tint so dark the windows are of negligible value etc.
People park on the street in front of the school, the kids come out, he gets them in the truck, goes to back up to pull away, and puts his trailer hitch, which sticks out a good 8" right through the front bumper cover, and radiator of the car behind him, which he claims is the guy behind his fault because he parked too close...

So it's not just women that pull bonehead moves...

Yeah Jeff,

But the white one has everything: skinny white walls, fake wire wheels, fake wood paneling, connie kit, steering wheel cover, and luggage rack. I bet it even has after-market **** carpeting.

Out of all seriousness, HOW could you design, produce and sell such an AWFUL vehicle!!??? It amazes me, it really, really does. I can just picture the car sales man now, "um well its 0-60 is 32.9 seconds BUT it has this really stylish faux wood paneling and is a 2 cylinder, and hey! its easy access to the spare tire!" C'mon now.

Yea, they also made quicker ones...The Turbo 2.2 was ahead of it's time in 85. True fuel injection, overhead cams, ect. It produced over 145hp in the day that a Mustang V8 could barely get to 200hp. So, yea the Town and Country was tacky with the fake wood, but that dumb rear spare carrier was added by someone and never came on those from the factory. Heck, there are plenty of aftermarket ugly S types out there as well.
