Default Curiosity regarding key-in-ignition tone

05 S-type 3.0L
Whilst renewing the rear pads and rotors, I left key in ignition to prevent park-brake from setting. Later that same day, during brake-fluid-renewal-through-bleeder-screws procedure, I had recruited one of the several children living in my house to pump/hold brakes while I actuated the bleeders. The lad left driver's door open which initiated the key-in tone.
I noticed as soon as I cracked a bleeder open, the tone stopped, then returned after I closed the bleed and he let off the pedal.

?!?

Just struck me as odd...anybody know what's in the logic that accounts for that?

Smart-Module to tone: "SSshhhh!!! He has no possibility to make hyd. pressure in the brakes...don't remind him the key's in the ignition, he may decide to go for a drive!"

Tone-to-smart-module: "Criminy! The horn still works, don't be such a ninny! lemme sing!"

Ahol:

Next time, with the car in neutral or park, hold down the brake release handle for 15 seconds or so, then shut off the car. This disables the epb till the next restart.

That way you don't have to chase the ghost of the ignition chime, although I suspect it shuts up when it realizes someone is in the car, aka pressing on the pedal.

Take care,

George

+1 on that

I don't like the key in the ignition if working on the car, unless unavoidable.

I'd be tempted to remove the nightmare EPB's fuse as well.

No. That's the curious bit.
Kid in seat. Brakes pumped firm and held = tone

Tone stops IMMEDIATELY on bleed screw movement.

Possibly due to pedal position, but similar behavior not evident on subsequent series of pumps.

Only on next bleed screw actuation.

Btw thx for tip, I recall it from another thread in thhe last week or so, but a couple of searches came up empty so I just left the key in in interest of getting started...and it IS actually quicker ...and u don't lose the key!
