Default Cylinder head gasket replacement info

Hi have excessive vapour coming from drivers side exhaust and cylinder 2 and 4 cylinder misfire code. I'm looking for information on removing the cylinder head to replace head gasket myself.

Before leaping into major repairs, a step-by-step diagnosis would be a good thing:

Thanks, Dave, for the information

Below is what happened and my checks

· When accelerating from an intersection the engine sputtered and went into Restricted Performance mode.

· Looking out my rearview mirror a large cloud of smoke coming out the driver’s side exhaust.

· Low coolant message came in

· Pulled vehicle over, stopped and called tow truck

· Once back home started engine and again large cloud of white smoke coming from driver’s side exhaust. Nothing from passenger side.

Following checks carried out:

· Confirmed coolant level low

· Code reader showed misfire cylinders 2 and 4

· Added coolant to normal level

· Checked oil on dip stick and oil cap no evidence of milky goo

· Did a chemical check. Lots of bubbles in chemical test device. Chemical change color to an off yellow

· Did a compression test on cylinders 2,4,6 and all normal 120 psi ????

I plan to get a cooling system pressure tester next week and do a pressure test on the system.

Would appreciate and comments

What was the condition of the spark plugs when removed from cylinders 2 and 4?
