Day 1 and locked out w engine running
Well, as I wait here for the locksmith to arrive, while my car is running with the only key and fob in the ignition, I thought I would share the short version of my 2001 S-type drama.
Bought the car from a dealer in Houston and had it shipped to VA for Xmas delivery, a Christmas present for my wife.
Pre-purchase inspection revealed it needed a new fuel pump, which dealer "took care of" prior to shipping.
Car arrived Christmas night and would not start. I had to help the driver roll it off the trailer and push into my drive-way. So car was towed to my mechanic, who confirmed the original fuel pump was still in the car. Never replaced, and was definitely the culprit for the car not starting. After replacing the fuel pump and some other work, the car was finally ready for my wife.
I pick the car up, runs great, pull into the drive way, shut the door with the car running, and the car locks!
I knew there was some issue with the fob or locking system as the trunk release button was not working and the fob was not unlocking properly when I received car, but never thought far enough ahead that the car could lock by itself.
So, after I get back into the car, what next to get this issue taken care of?
Does this sound like a problem with the fob, the looking system, the ecu, some combination? Is this something I will need to have a jag dealer look at?
Any comments/ideas/suggestions appreciated.
Thanks from the idiot of the day.

Update
Key is retrieved, but this thing has a mind of its own. Now when locking with fob or manually, it is unlocking by itself.
Figures, when I needed it to unlock it won't, now I have the key it refuses to lock. Comical really. And the trunk won't open by fob or by interior release button, only w key.
Anyone else ever experience this??

Well Duncan welcome to the ownership! I hope you are DIY savy as you are about to embark on a journey of what JagV8 stated in post #4.
You are lucky enough that the trunk issue is most likely the valet button in the glove box.
To lengthy to retype and retype, sorry to say do an advanced search in the s type subdirectory for "lock actuator" hopefully its one of the front doors but usually turns out to be the more difficult to replace rear.
There is also a sticky about cleaning the FOB by fellow member "Jon89"
Good luck and see you around
BTW I was a well seasoned "idiot" ---> https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...m-idiot-89016/
