Smile Daytime running lights

Hi All, I have just fitted DRL to my 2007 S type, I used the neutral or earth wire from the existing fog light wiring loom and the feed from the nearside side light live wire. I have already got LED side light bulbs and have noticed that they stay partialy illuminated (dim) for about an hour after turning the lights off, this is not a problem but the new DRL are also on full for 30min after the lights are turned off and ignition off. Also on the plus side they switch on as soon as i unlock the car or open the boot, so they do work without the side lights on. I asume they are using residual current from the loom circuits. Any ideas for this problem ? PS they look great!

Wouldn't it have been simpler to get the dealer to activate the DLRs already fitted to the car?

The UK S type does not have DLR nor does the early XF, but thats not to say that the wiring harness is not available to do this, I need a UK vehicle expert to answer that i think.

i believe the + wire to the lights is always live, weather the lights are on or not and are "switched" somewhere on the - side, and shut down after 30mins when all the modules go into "sleep mode". thats why they come on as soon as you unlock the car as the modules "wake up".

if i'm wrong i'm sure someone will correct me.

Do you have front fog lights ? if not, could you wire them into those wires ? (if they are there)

Hi Yes the wiring to the fog lights is there but the car was not fitted with fog lights or more inportantly the fog light switch, I have used the earth wire from this wiring to earth the DLR's. I need to find a live that is switched on and off by the ignition, but dont realy want to mess with the fuse box.

i am not to familiar with the facelift model, can you not fit the foglight switch, or if not i'm sure someone with more knowledge will point you in the right direction to to finding an ignition on + power source you can tap into.

the leds being on for that length of time, or even all night, shouldn't put any signification drain on the battery, i used to have led's all round on one of my previous cars and could leave them on all night, i even left them on for an entire weekend once and didn't drain the battery, and it was much smaller then a stype battery.

I am not sure where the switch would fit, I cant see any missing or blanked off area's where the switch would have been, but hopefully someone with a good knowledge of the system will read this and point out where I am going wrong.

is your light switch a rotary switch on the dash for side lights/dipped beam and rear fogs ? if so that switch will need changing for one with front fogs on.

on mine 1 click clockwise is side lights, 2 clicks dipped beam, then pull for front fogs, then another click clockwise for rear fogs.

if yours is different i should imagine it would be next to the rear fogs

like this on my car
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Ja...id=p4340.l3484

i think you need this one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/03-04-05-jag...-/350484097270

the top button would be for front fogs

Yes thanks for that. It is the latter. mine is missing the top button and probably the relay's, I think you have solved the problem. Just a few more £££ should put it right.

I will try to post a picture or two tomorrow if the site will let me, as I don't have full accesses rights yet and I am still learning how to navigate around.
Just an update driving around and parking, the lights look great but people keep telling me I have left my lights on!

Quick question, how do I blank out my number plate when taking the photos, or doesn't it matter.

the easiest way if you are using windows, just use the program called paint in windows, and scribble over your reg then save it.

According to one source, DRL as implemented in the S-Type is a function of the light switch. Get the right light switch and you have DRL.

OK hope this works, I have some pic's of the lights on and off so you can see where I fitted them, they are stuck on so no need to drill the bodywork.
