I had a broken demister panel. Been that way since I got the car. Time to do something. No one had one for sale so I used one from another Ford product. I bought a panel for a 200-2002 Lincoln LS. It is NOT a plug and play and will require adjusting and fitting. Not a project that is easy, but it worked .
1. Remove side post covers
2. Remove old panel. Most likely it will break coming off. It is complete junk.
3. Be sure there are no pieces left over. Remove and be careful with the panel wire. It has 4 clips but the wire will slide right out.
4. The LS panel will need a rework on the bottom. NONE of the tabs match but don't cut them completely off. Trim for a flush fit. You must also cut the side slots to match the original for the side post covers. You will have to trim the front as it is about a half inch longer than original. I took off about 1/4 inch
5. Paint the panel after prep with Krylon Fusion all in one paint and primer....I used a contrasting color as there is no standard match. Lowe's sells it.
6. Pad the front of the panel and tab it much like the original. That will STOP rattle.
7. Ease the panel into place so the ends lay down flush to the dash panel. You will have NO CLIPS on this panel. Once placed, re-install the side post covers. This is what holds the panel.
8. There will be a gap between the panel and dash. Fills with round silicon striping or a T-mold. I'll try both to see what looks best when it arrives.
Happy Defrosting. Panel painted in SATIN Otter Brown
