Thumbs up Difference Between 05 and 06 STR?

I'm in the market to purchase an STR and wanted to know everyone’s opinions and facts about the difference in the two years. Car must be white, w/navigation and I’m looking to have the Vulcan wheels on it. The lower the miles the better.

Thanks

As far as differences go with the '05 and '06 S-types, I think they are few and far between. Most changes to the S-Type took place as the '05 model was introduced. Between '05 and '06 I think the only changes were standard mesh grill on all trims, different wheels on the V6 models and a slightly different braking system for the V6 and V8 models (non-supercharged). I don't think any of these changes applied to the S-Type R since it already came with a mesh grill, Brembo brakes, and special wheels. Hope this helps.

I got to drive an STR once and LOVED it...I'd love to get one but I'm pretty sure my wife (and insurance company) would laugh at me

Enjoy!

06 StypeRs also have different brakes and I believe Navigation became standard. Bluetooth also became standard with all Stypes equipped with navigation. 06 Also featured a VDP s type which was basically an optioned out 4.2 with unique 17" wheels and a little extra special interior trim.

Hope this helps!

I think they took the Brembo brakes OFF at some point, but maybe not in all markets?

I also have read they took off the front fogs and fitted extra oil coolers or the like. I dont' know if that's true but if it is I'd like to know more about the engineering issues as to why i.e. when it would be a good idea to consider doing the same!

I see that the brakes are different, but is that for the good or bad. Are there any 2006 STR owners that could chime in on some of these facts.

Mine does not have Brembo brakes. The brake system is fantastic and from what I hear much cheaper to maintain. The dealer did my rears for under $400.00 parts and labor(no rotors)can't do Brembos without rotors from what I was told. Still have lots of brake dust.Very large calipers with black R logo.
No front fog lights. More oil coolers instead,I will take the cooling over the fogs anyday. No fog in Texas to deal with.Car has been fantastic purchase. Will buy XFR in 2-3 years but will keep the STR for collectability.

MyBlackCat - thanks for confirming those details. I'd rather have oil coolers, too, but my car is too old. (Might retro-fit them.)
