Been look'n at posts over on the XF forum and seen discussion about servicing the differential:
>Rear Differential; long over due..should do every 50,000 miles.
Don't remember seeing any discussion of that over here... Is that something that the S-Types don't need to do as routinely as the XF guys?

>The same source recommends doing the transmission every 30K miles.........
Ya, noticed that, decided to focus on the diff question
But really, you're down there in Oz, what do you know about miles?

You dreamed of a big star -
He played a mean guitar -
He loved to drive his Jaguar...
So welcome to the machine

Nope, sorry, saw that you were from Perth and immediately thought Oz, not Canada
But same question holds... ;-)

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, and
Torque is how far you take the wall with you

We know the US won't let go of your ounces, miles and (amazingly) Fahrenheit and screwy US-mini gallons any more than you'll adopt socialized medical care, so we're being good neighbours as always and just remember both.

So +1 on the change and 50K seems reasonable.

Jaguar does not make mention of any requirement to change the diff oil. Right, wrong or indifferent, this most likely means that very few owners have changed it in their S-types.
The oldest S-types are now 16 years old and examples of cars with 100K or 150K miles on them are commonplace. There are very few instances of diff problems related to lack of oil change. Can't find even one, actually.
Most cars that do have a factory recommenced interval are around 100K miles.

The diffs do seem to last well... but even so it's metal with lubricant so a change must be worthwhile at some (100K?) mileage.
Jaguar don't mention (or I didn't find it) a few things that actually need lubricating - the fuel flap & mechanism for example. I'd stick the diff in the same overall category (it moves, lubricate it).

>Got It, Yes it moves and it must be lubed!
Ok, so what needs to be lubed and how do you do it? Pop the flap open and reach in with white grease on a finger and schmeer it around?
